Already in the first half of February, Russia will begin the total pressure on Ukraine, the purpose of which - full control of Moscow over the country.

This was stated by former adviser to Vladimir Putin, the famous economist, member of the Russian "Committee of Solidarity with the Maidan" Andrei Illarionov. According to him, the Kremlin under construction are three possible scenarios, one of which - the establishment of full control over the whole Ukraine.

Therefore, according to Illarionov, already within the next week, Russia will begin a lot of pressure on Kiev. Now Moscow resumed trading and information war against Ukraine. In particular, there is a delay at the border of Ukrainian goods in 10-15 days.

"With all the television channels bombarded every day tons of promotional materials that Ukraine is in a coup, after which the Nazis come to power and neo-Nazis. Purpose of this revolution, here I quote literally, is" genocide and the destruction of the Russian population, "- said Illarionov.

At the same time, according to the ex-adviser to Putin, Russia has increased its presence in Ukraine, in particular, in the Crimea and the Luhansk region, where the predominant Russian population.

"Don Cossacks entered the Lugansk region in order to protect the Russian population in eastern Ukraine, and biker clubs" Night Wolves "and" Cossacks Volgograd "sent its members to Sevastopol to protect it from the raging swells. All this gives the impression of a massive, well-prepared campaign , which has just begun and will go on increasing in the next 7-10 days ", - said Illarionov. Ex-adviser to Putin believes that the active phase of his script, Russia will begin immediately after the opening of the Sochi Olympics , that is February 7-8. It was at this time "will start pressure on Ukraine in all directions."

According to Illarionov, Russia has three possible scenarios in Ukraine. "First, baseline scenario envisages the establishment of control over the entire Ukraine. This would be the most appropriate option, - he said. - The second scenario, which now came to the fore and which is now spoken by all the pro-Kremlin politicians and political scientists - is federalization or confederation Ukraine. When such a project will need to establish control over the Moscow-backed part of the country.

Finally, the third scenario. His will realize if we fail to implement the first two. This control over the Crimea, Luhansk, and possibly part of Sumy region. Ie in areas where the predominant Russian population. " Illarionov believes that Russia is now no matter who will be appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine, because "the decision is made and the operation unfolds." According to him, the pressure can be reduced only if this appointment Andriy Klyuyev or Viktor Medvedchuk.

"In the case of the appointment of one of them, Moscow could reduce pressure on Ukraine due to the fact that they, not the Kremlin, the Russian program will perform" - suggested the expert.

Illarionov said that a number of speakers of the Russian authorities directly calls the present time "exceptionally favorable to recreate the age-old dream of reunification of Ukraine and Russia."

"As you know, Putin did not consider Ukraine as a state. Kremlin Many call it nedogosudarstvom. From their point of view, Ukraine will no longer be so weak in relation to Russia, and Russia will not be as strong in relation to Ukraine, as it is today. And West represented by the EU and the U.S. will not be so indifferent to the Ukrainian crisis, as it is today. So once again emphasize the countdown goes for days, because sooner or later get out of Ukraine's political and economic crisis, "- said Illarionov comments edition Gordonua.com.

This is a Google translated version. It seems Putin has plans after the Olympics just like he did for North Ossetia. Putin plans to assimilate Russian speaking border regions back into Russia.

If this is true, this is the exact same game plan they played with Georgia. They attacked during the Olympics, under the pretext of defending the Russian population from attacks which the Russkies themselves provoked. If this is true, this is very scary, and I fear not just for the people of Ukraine, but for the whole world.

I guess we’ll see what happens pretty soon.

“Nedogosudarstvom”?

That would probably be much easier to read (and pronounce) in Cyrillic! ;)

WOW!

I guess we should take back Cuba, our old colony, right?

After all, we tried to get them on the independence track and Fidel shat all over that.

I guess we should take back Cuba, our old colony, right?

It was attempted, wasn't it?

After all, we tried to get them on the independence track and Fidel shat all over that.

He had no use for independence. He wanted dependence - on him - and he had force to insist on his vision of Cuba. The poor, hungry masses eagerly supported him; they saw no benefit in independence and in democracy, especially in the version that General Batista was selling:

In March 1952, a Cuban general and politician, Fulgencio Batista, seized power on the island, proclaimed himself president and deposed the discredited president Carlos Prío Socarrás of the Partido Auténtico. Batista canceled the planned presidential elections, and described his new system as "disciplined democracy"; although he gained some popular support, many Cubans saw it as the establishment of a one-man dictatorship.[9][10][11][12] Many opponents of the Batista regime took to armed rebellion in an attempt to oust the government, sparking the Cuban Revolution.

Note that Castro's group was not alone in their revolutionary intent. By that time Cuba was very close to what we call today "a failed state." The rule of the last elected President was civil, but corrupt and inefficient:

However, violence among political factions and reports of theft and self-enrichment in the government ranks marred Prío's term. The Prío administration increasingly came to be perceived by the public as ineffectual in the face of violence and corruption, much as the Grau administration before it.

Having said all that, it may well be that Ukrainian government is following the undignified path of all those Presidents of Cuba, who in the end destroyed their country, and the "anyone but Batista" crowd was gladly taking the arms that Castro et alia were giving out. If so, it's hardly surprising that Ukraine's largest neighbor is worried and making plans. Imagine what would the USA do if Mexico becomes de-facto lost to drug cartels... Hmm. Perhaps I should rephrase that.

The outcome will be interesting.

Putin’s on a role Internationally and has found favor with many nation leaders... that he can play in their field and do so with good results, he’s been at this for some time........ So now he’s positioned himself with enough leverage with those nations that he can pretty much do what is necessary to sustain the agreements he’s made with nations...and the good will among them. At most he’ll get his hands slapped by the International Leaders, but he’s got a place among them currently.

There are lots of Ukranians, but the idea of a state within the present borders of Ukraine is a modern fantasy, specifically, a Stalinist one.

Eastern Ukraine is essentially Russian already. It could only separate at a time of maximal Russian weakness, such as occurred in 1991-94.

Western Ukraine is not Russian (not at all Russian), but historically it has always existed as a province of a larger state such as Austria or Poland.

If the EU political model were viable, the Western Ukraine could separate and become an EU member (without Kiev), but it is not.

The long-term answer is a German-Russian expansion that will again engulf the small states into some sort of dependency (TBD), probably with actual unification of Eastern Ukraine + Belarus with Russia.

Cuba wasn’t a “colony.”

Technically, that implies an area filled with, say, citizens of the United States.

Cuba was a “protectorate,” which implies an area held under U.S. treaty while being raped by international corporations.

/United Fruit: looking at you.
//My daddy wrote his master’s thesis at Duke about this subject. I learned a lot during that process.

Cuba was a prize of war from the Spanish-American War.

A protectorate? Yes, from our standpoint Cuba was that, as we had no intention on making it a permanent part of the U.S.A.

Everyone else in the world believe it was a colony.

I thought Putin was a good guy, a conservative who knew how to handle himself. Isn’t that the play he’s getting in some quarters of FR?

I just read an article that purports Putin is now preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Is it not true?

Had Kennedy actually supported and aided the invasion forces Fidel would be dead, Cuba free, and selling timeshares to naïve Americans.
