Rep. Henry Waxman: The reason I’m leaving Congress
Washington Post ^ | 02/01/2014 | Rep. Henry A. Waxman

Posted on 02/01/2014 7:36:05 AM PST by SeekAndFind

I announced this past week that I will be retiring after having the honor of serving my Los Angeles constituents in Congress for 40 years.

Immediately, speculation began that I am leaving because I am frustrated with a broken institution. But the exact opposite is true: I am leaving Congress with my conviction intact that the legislative branch can be a powerful force for good.

Of course there are aspects of the current Congress that I abhor. This past week, every Republican on the Energy and Commerce Committee, where I have served most of my career, voted to limit the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to regulate carbon pollution that is causing climate change. When my colleague Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) offered a simple amendment affirming that climate change is real, they voted against that, too.

That kind of mindless denial of science is an embarrassment.

Voting over and over to repeal the Affordable Care Act, shutting down the government and threatening default are other deplorable examples of the extremism of tea party Republicans.

By some miracle the Dems spent their whole two years with triple control of govt on Obamacare and forgot to pass Cap N Tax.

“That kind of mindless denial of science is an embarrassment.”

Funny, I don’t recall science being associated with Congressional statements, or affirmations or denials from powerful non-scientists, that is, at least not since the 18th century. Science, as I recall, is grounded in evidence.

Waxman’s statements are nothing more than a smear of conservatives. He is undeserving of his office or respect. Conservatives are far more in tune with science than Waxman has ever been. Waxman depends on scientific ignorance to push his ideology. Consider how much of his work is in obvious ignorance of economics.

Waxman is leaving Congress b/c this ‘Soebarkah/Obama’ IRANIAN enemy combatant is about to get exposed.

When that happens, Waxman doesn’t want to be sitting across the room.

If we don’t get EMP’d or Nuked first, half of Congress could go to prison.

Too bad we can’t throw all these old grifters in prison for becoming multi-millionaires on the backs of the taxpayers. If they aren’t crooks, how in the heck could such untalented low-lifes get that much money?

Wow, I didn't know that happened? Maybe things aren't so bleak after all. Cutting the agency back to where it was about 15 or 20 years age would be better, Not sure it should go away entirely but it certainly needs it's wings clipped.

His dumping on the Republicans as a reason is total BS, the Republicans in California are so in the minority that they can't stop a damn thing the demons want to ram through!

“His constituents would include much of the western part of the city of Los Angeles, as well as West Hollywood, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills.”

As Lou Gossett Jr. Said in “An Officer and a Gentleman,” “All they have there are steers and queers, and I don’t see any horns on you, boy.”

Yes I’m guessing his 40 yr Congressional pension is pocket money relative to the dough he’s made otherwise.

Waxman, quit being so damn disingenuous. The question was never about "if the climate changes", but whether or not man has anything to do with it. Take your carbon 'pollution' and stuff it. Good riddance.
