GOP insiders back Rubio in 2016
The Hill ^ | February 1,2014 | Alexander Bolton

Posted on 02/01/2014 12:13:09 PM PST by Hojczyk

Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) political stock is rated a buy by major Republican fundraisers in Washington, who are bullish on Rubio’s future as a 2016 presidential candidate.

A group of Republican fundraising heavyweights and wise men in Washington’s business community are solidly behind Rubio, and see him not only as someone who could win the White House, but someone they can work with.

The fundraisers include Bill Paxon, a former New York lawmaker who is now a senior adviser at Akin Gump; Dirk Van Dongen, the president of the National Wholesalers Association; and Wayne Berman, a big-time donor with a knack for picking winning candidates in presidential primaries. All three are a party of the business wing of the Republican Party that has clashed with the Tea Party. Their support for Rubio suggests they seem him as a possible ally going forward.

Political strategists think Rubio’s chances of winning the GOP nomination in 2016 are looking better because of the bridge scandal embroiling New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) decision to forego a White House bid to aim for the gavel of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.

“Marco Rubio is very much in the top tier of potential Republican candidates. Anyone who says otherwise hasn’t looked at any data and doesn’t understand the dynamics of the Republican primary,” said Whit Ayres, a Republican pollster who counts Rubio as one of his clients. “Look at who votes. It’s very difficult to make the case that Chris Christie has a better chance winning the primary than Rubio.”

He is a lightweight.

Not to mention unpredictable. He’s a sucker for becoming Schumer’s gopher on amnesty.

He’s a doofus who couldn’t plan ahead, nor put a staff together to get him out of his own way in addressing the nation after the State of the Union last year. He recited his whole speech in Spanish before addressing the nation. What a maroon!

He is a gopher for the highest bidder, or any bidder.

He supported Ted Cruz in the filibuster by speaking for a few minutes - on “The Godfather”, a soap opera tragedy about a group of criminals. not even one virtuous character in the story.

And he has a bad combover and flashes that creep teeth grin after he talks about everything.

He’s commenting on Justin Bieber today. Can you imagine, with the president actively trying to tear down every pillar, any senator even has time to stop for a camera, he’s opining on Justin Beiber? Oh, and then flashing his teeth.

He would open the flood gates for immigration with no parameters, he would do anything the dem senators to ld him to do.

He has a bachelors degree in history, or something, and a law degree, with which he had simply a political career.

Hillary, or ANY serial criminal, they send up for nomination, will devour him in five minutes, no more.

And he won’t go back in.

Of course the GOP likes him. He’ll lose.

Bush, Bush, Dole, Bush, Bush, McCain and Romney. He's right.

The establishment GOP attacks and threatens the Tea Party. Maybe it is time to do the same to them. Tell the GOP that they promote a true Tea Party approved conservative or they will face a Tea Party third party candidate in 2016. Telling them that they will lose the conservative vote again and lose again is not enough. They don’t get the message. A third conservative party will make it clear.

I’m not sure they’re right. Rubio is very intelligent and well spoken, and I don’t think that’s the kind of candidate they want. Besides, it’s not his “turn” yet.

The GOP always runs retreads who are just hacks who have been around for a long time and whose “turn” eventually comes. Witness McCain. Heck, witness Romney, although it was aided in his case by the fact that he was willing to spend millions of his own to buy a run.

Personally, I think it’s going to be Romney again.

What exactly has Senator Rubio done that proves he has #1 what it takes to be our chief executive and #2 that he can actually produce smaller government as leader of the so-called party of small government? The man is a relative newbie out of Florida, but he does have that amnesty pimp thing going for him. I’ll give him that. Meh!

I definitely would NOT take you up on that bet. Hillary vs. Jeb? That’s not even a toss up.

I’m a Washington-Jefferson conservative - an America first no foreign entangling alliance advocate. Both parties are running world entangling, trade deficit candidates. Clinton vs Rubio ‘what difference does it make’. I’m voting Third. There is usually someone there so I don’t waste my vote.

The GOPe will stop at nothing to keep Cruz from sweeping the South in the primaries.

Huckabee, Jeb, Rubio, Perry. They’re pulling out all the stops this time around, and they’re starting early.
