A Serious GOP Alternative to Obamacare
American Spectator ^ | 2/3/2014 | David Catron

The most frequently repeated Democrat talking point concerning Republican opposition to Obamacare is the claim that the GOP has offered no alternative ... Obama offered yet another variation on the theme during his recent State of the Union message: “I don’t expect to convince my Republican friends on the merits of this law.… So again, if you have specific plans to cut costs, cover more people, and increase choice — tell America what you’d do differently” ... Ironically, as the President well knew when he read those words from his teleprompter, the latest of several Republican alternatives to Obamacare had been announced just a day earlier.

What the GOP Establishment can’t seem to get through their thick skulls.....we don’t need, want or desire an “alternative” to OBAMACIDE.

The Federal Gubmint has no business at all having anything to do with our Healthcare. Stay the HELL away from it!

FACT.

So lets see, America doesn’t need to worry about healthcare, but let’s go ahead and continue to send American manufacturing to China?

America needs jobs.

Now. Stop spinning off American jobs.

Once we actually make things, here, again then we can stop worrying about healthcare, but we cannot do both. Either bring back American jobs, or else we need to provide healthcare for people somehow.

Not saying the democrats method is the best, but we need to provide something to Americans.

I think we should bring back American manufacturing. But that is just my preference.

The only “serious alternative” to Obamacare is FREEDOM.

A Serious GOP Alternative to Obamacare

If the courts were to tell congress that they aren't a 'ruling class' and can't exempt themselves from 0bamacare, then you'd see repeal and alternatives within a couple of days.

The only thing they need to do is facilitate “interstate commerce” by allowing insurance companies to compete across state lines.

They could also make HSA’s and insurance premiums more tax-favorable as well,

but, as the “poor” don’t even pay taxes, this wouldn’t accomplish the main goal of Obamacare - punishing the rich and redistributing their wealth to leftist supporters.

No it's not. The republicans are the party of "No". Everyone in their correct head knows that!

Like minded heads also know there is no Benghazi concern as a weapons clearance warehouse to jihadis, no problems with using the IRS as a weapon on Americans, no Obamacare problems, no concerns about the NSA snatching up your phone calls, financial transactions, emails, tweets, and facebook gabbing, and no worries about thousands of military weapons and drones in the hands of your local police department.

Paranoid right wing nut-jobs!/s

Rather than hammering the administration on its incompetence and criminality, the GOP has elected to give the Democrats an escape hatch on Obamacare and to carry out a bloody civil war over immigration.

Even at Forbes, Matthew Herper characterizes the CARE Act as “a big tax hike,” an absurd distortion of the plan’s partial elimination of preferential tax treatment for employer-based coverage.

How is that an absurd distortion? I get my medical care through my employer. Under this plan 35% of the cost of my coverage will be become taxable income, increasing my income taxes accordingly. That's a big tax hike to me.

Herper’s colleague, Avik Roy, points out that he conveniently “ignores the $1.2 trillion tax cut from repealing Obamacare.”

But will there be such a cut? The GOP plan offers incentives and tax credits in many ways as generous as Obamacare. There is no reason to believe that its costs won't be close to Obamacare's costs. The difference is that they try to offset those costs by increasing taxes on people like me.

Obamacare coverage caused large companies to drop their employee plans and shift people to Obamacare. The GOP plan is just as likely to do that as well. And one of the only things that Obamacare got right is that you need a mix of healthy people in the insurance pool to offset those who submit claims above what they pay in annual premiums. That's why they had the mandate. The GOP plan drops the mandate. A significant percentage of the young and healty will forego health insurance, as they did before Obamacare, and those more costly people will get health insurance through the government, upsetting cost projections and probably increasing the costs of the program even more.

This isn't an alternative. It's Obamacare lite. Most of the disadvantages and few advantages of its own.

I think we should bring back American manufacturing. But that is just my preference.

Are you willing to pay $3500 for a Television, $400 for a pair of shoes, $1500 for a suit, $60 for a T Shirt?

We can't expect to bring back jobs to America unless we are willing to put high tariffs on foreign made goods and pay through the nose for things we buy every day.

You can't have "free trade" with countries that employ slave labor.

We can't compete with countries that have no environmental laws and have 5 year olds working 16 hours a day for $1 a day.

The remedy to bring back manufacturing jobs to America is to only buy American made products.

Good luck finding them.

My opinion is, it’s the insurance companies and tort lawyers
that caused this problem.
1. The insurance companies hid the cost of medical care
from the consumer.
2. The tort lawyers made it expensive to to be a practicing
physician.
Then they both pushed the cost into health care and insurance and then pushed the fear of bankruptcy into the mix.
This all set up the MO for the communist to step in and
take control of the medical industry, mostly against the
will of the people.

The republicans alternative is just more of the same

” Center for Health and Economy (H&E), “The number of insured under the proposal is estimated to be 1 percent higher than under current law.” H&E also projects that it would “lower average premiums.”

And that estimate is about as good as the one for
Obamacare, worthless.

The alternative has to restore the free market in health services and insurance markets. Take away the employer tax deduction. Employers get back to paying employees what they are worth directly, and then the employee gets his own health insurance. Then, make all health care expenses deductible to the employee. Health care expenses are not income, they are "maintenance" on the "investment" that is our bodies that earn the income. Insurance and costs paid to a doctor or hospital all deductible. Keep your receipts. People will find the best deals, and the free market will bring health care pricing back to reality. There will be competition. Employees can join large groups to gain the benefit of efficiencies of scale, but they don't have to be chosen by the employer.

That's a start, anyway.
