MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A Wisconsin legislative committee is set to vote on a resolution calling for a state convention to propose a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
It takes a two-thirds vote in Congress to propose an amendment for states' ratification. Congress also must grant a request from two-thirds of the states to convene a state convention to propose an amendment. Ratification requires approval from three-quarters of state legislatures.
The tea party has been making a national push to convene a convention to propose an amendment requiring the federal government to balance its budget. Wisconsin Republicans have drafted a resolution asking Congress for such a convention.
The Assembly election committee is set to vote on the resolution Tuesday. Approval would clear the way for a full Assembly vote.
Because in every public forum, there are knee jerk, know it alls who have NO DESIRE to educate themselves into the workings of the Constitution... An “Article V convention for the proposal of amendments” is NOT NOT NOT a “con-con”...

That is precisely what we intend to fix. This will be accomplished by such ideas as repealing the 17 amendment. Passing an amendment that empowers the states to override the federal government by say two-thirds or three quarters of the states voting to override. I believe the cos will meet initially to pass one amendment. It will either be a balanced budget amendment or the repeal of the 17th amendment. If the initial cos goes fairly smoothly there will be additional conventions to address other issues. Baby steps.
Most folks I talk to believe it is a constitutional convention. If you can get them to listen you can get past that hurdle. Then you run up against the runaway convention / hijacked convention argument. And on and on. And these are conservatives. In the end as arguments are stripped away the final come back is it will never happen. And if it does nothing will ever be ratified. Man...
If some who mattered, someone with any degree of credibility at all, proposed a Constitutional Convention, then yes, that person would lose all credibility and would become a person who does not matter. At least to me.
No. It certainly is not debated among ANY conservatives I know, read, converse with, or who has in any way come into the range of my perception.
Baby steps mean amendments. You will allow the Dhimmicrats and their minions in the MSM to hijack the convention and the Boners and McConnells to march in lockstep with them.
