AS TYEMA SANCHEZ of Northern Liberties got dressed yesterday morning, she carefully considered which purse to carry. Given the recent spate of purse-snatch shootings, she wondered whether she should carry her Louis Vuitton with the short straps. Under the circumstances, maybe a wiser choice was the brown Marshalls knockoff with the long strap that goes across her chest and keeps her hands free. Better yet, perhaps the smartest thing was not to carry a pocketbook at all and instead tuck her money into her bra. Anything's better than toting around what she's begun referring to as a "death ticket." Women across the city are having similar conversations with themselves lately, as Philadelphia reels from yet another senseless purse snatching/homicide. The latest happened early Sunday as two women left the Tropical Heat nightclub at 53rd and Market streets following a night of karaoke. Two men in hooded sweatshirts confronted the women about 2:35 a.m., took their handbags, then opened fire, killing Melissa Thomas, 29, and injuring her friend. All because of a damn handbag. She's just coming out of the bar. At 2-something in the morning, they probably didn't have that much cash on them. "Where are our men? Why are they not protecting us?" Sanchez continued, her voice full of frustration. "Men are failing us. I feel as though we are not being protected."

Good grief. We’ve spent the last 30 years emasculating our men, then wonder why they don’t act like cowboys.
You mean they’re not supposed to be sensitive and abhor violence? They’re supposed to be tough? Next thing you know, we’ll accuse them of not being providers as well as protectors.
Men in positions of high power are failing us too. I know some women are filing us too but I’m not stupid enough to say all women are failing us.

Hey, the left said we’re all equal. Protect your own selves. (Well, being able to protect yourself is just a smart way to live, no matter who you are. But you can thank the left for the fact that chivalry is dead and stinking.) You don’t get it both ways (even though “feminists” try to)-it’s either “I am woman hear me roar” or “I am a poor helpless victim”.
Perhaps a woman hanging out until 2am in a bar is unwise regardless of her handbag brand.

Yep, sounds like an excuse to me. My Dad told me along time ago, nothing good ever happens after midnight.
We’re not allowed to say anything about the hooded sweatshirt perpetrators. But, seems to me that these guys are to blame for being part of the criminal element.
And what’s with men are supposed to protect them, etc? They are hanging out in a bar alone, and didn’t have a man with them. What exactly are they saying?
Which is it twits? We are all told that women don’t need men, but if things don’t go right they do need men. Evidently we’re still needed to be the cash cow, to throw ourselves in front of a bullet for them, as some form of sperm donor but other than that we’re useless; it that the current concept?
Women want to blame men for anything that doesn’t go right for them but expect them to protect them in some way, probably with those evil guns and probably wouldn’t like it when the death rate of black thugs skyrocketed because some man was protecting them.

I would truly love to see someone spell this all out in explicit language to this woman ...
I beg to disagree with that statement but agree with everything else.
OK, so she's in a situation where no man thinks she's worth risking himself to protect her. She should either get a CCW, find a man and give him a reason to want to protect her, or both.
We all know that if there was a sudden surge in shooting purse snatchers, the Al & Jesse show would be coming to town. Especially if the snatchers work in two-man teams: one unarmed guy to snatch the purse (being unarmed to avoid aggravated robbery charges), and a partner to shoot anybody who gives chase.
