On the day he was to be sentenced to nearly three years in prison, 20-year-old Devon Derrick Parker instead made his way to a north Minneapolis home and knocked on the back door.
Appearing frantic and paranoid, he told homeowner Thomas K. Sonnenberg that someone was chasing him. Moments later, the 69-year-old retired technician, who had let Parker in intending to help him, was dead, shot with his own gun, according to second-degree-murder charges filed Monday against Parker.
---- At Sonnenbergs home, his two grown daughters continued to clean it out. They said their mother will never return to it.
---- Baufield said shes concerned, given that her father was killed by his own gun, that his death could be politicized.
We would be very angry if this got used for the gun control lobby, she said. If my dad didnt let down his guard, this would not have happened. He totally thought he was doing him a favor.

Previous conviction third degree assault 2011- tripping a man whose cell phone had just been stolen, punching him in the face, jumping on him, breaking bones around his eyes. Sounds like a gang stomping and attempted murder but charged 3rd assault and served 36 days.
Punched a bus driver in the face in 2012, broke the man's glasses, fired a shot that hit the bus, sentence 180 days.
Struck his mother while on ecstasy and alcohol last year, awaiting sentence, up to 33 months.
Mentally ill or pure thug or mix, this bastard should still be in for the 2011 attack.
I don't see any point in hanging on in a neighborhood that's gone bad, or letting your parents do it. Cut your losses and leave.
Minnesota’s ‘35 strikes’ program. A leftist’s dream.
obama’s son.
The lesson learned? NEVER let a strange black man into your house even if you see him getting beat before your eyes.
It shouldn’t be that way, but experience is teaching us that it is.
When does a feral white man/teenager ever do this to an elderly black man or woman? I can’t think of any cases. Though a feral black yoof will do this within his race to the black` elderly
Okay, where are those federal "use a gun, go to prison" added, MANDATORY consecutive minimum sentences?
You mean Just-Us/BATF doesn't enforce their gun laws?
Maybe we should pass a new law requiring them to enforce the laws they are mandated by law to enforce. /s
Sonneburg’s error was to trust a frantic, paranoid young black punk . Being color blind cost him his life .
SPJNK.
If I’m not expecting you...I’m not opening the door.
Each situation requires prudent decision making.
You know your neighborhood, and your ability to assess the exterior situation.
Arming yourself and dialing 911, should preceed opening your door to a paniced stranger.
Oddly enough, accusations of racism do not apply in your own home. If a black man knocks on your door and you do not let him in, solely because he is black, you are still faultless.
You have no, zero, obligation.
If they are black, but respectable, they should understand this handicap, and call first to be recognized and identifiable.
In a place with much crime, this rule should apply to anyone not known by the residents of a home. In that case, it even transcends race. “We do not let in ‘walk-ins’.”
Never let any stranger into your home! If someone says he needs help, call the cops for him. Do not open the door, and get your weapon in case he tries to break in.
I don’t care who it is, man, woman, or child.. if I don’t know them, I don’t answer the door.
Shot with his own gun.....sad to see but stupid
hurts, sometimes it’s fatal. Homeowner made multiple
mistakes, allowing animals into your house is the first
one, failing to keep our distance from the animals and
not having the animal at gunpoint are two more.
Another dead white man, and no outrage. RIP.
