NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Gay and bisexual boys are almost six times as likely as their heterosexual peers to misuse steroids, according to a new study.
"What was most surprising to us was the magnitude of the disparities that emerged between sexual minority and heterosexual boys," Aaron J. Blashill from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston told Reuters Health in an email.
Upwards of 5 percent of adolescent boys use anabolic-androgenic steroids to enhance strength, athletic performance, and muscle size, but nobody had studied the association between sexual orientation and steroid abuse before, Blashill and his colleague Steven A. Safren noted.
Long-term misuse of steroids can lead to heart problems, hormone-related changes and psychiatric disorders.
The researchers were concerned that gay and bisexual boys might be more likely to misuse steroids because of other factors that have been tied to steroid and other substance abuse. Those include depression, victimization, suicidal thoughts and intent and poor body image.

...unless of course messing with your body’s chemistry makes it more likely that you will become confused and make lifestyle choices that popular culture refers to as “gay.” The serious question here is, which came first?
The overwhelming majority of adolescent boy that self identify as “gay” or bisexual have been molested. It makes sense that they would react by trying to get strong enough to defend themselves from predators. God knows that our public schools aren’t going to do it.

Many gays pump up. Part of it, I believe, is to enhance their physical image to attract other males. Plus, the gym, especially the weightlifting area, is where a lot of gays go to meet other gay men. A gay man told me this.
I don’t believe it’s to prevent bullying. Gays all bulk up on steroids just as they haunt gyms to create muscle. They do it to make themselves attractive to other men. They’re obsessed with body image.

These are adolescent boys, not “gays”, and I didn’t mention bullying. Not all boys that are molested decide they are “gay”, but most self identified “gay” boys have been molested. As this article is about boys that identify themselves as “gay” statistically the overwhelming majority have been molested. It would seem to me that it’s the molestation (again raping someone isn’t “bullying” them) is most likely culprit. I guess it could be some mysterious “gay gene” that urges boys to become so body conscious they resort to drugs. The odds are right up there with Santa retiring due to anthropomorphic global warming.
