My dad, of blessed memory, served in the U.S. Air Force. He did not sit at home during the Holocaust. There were many Jewish servicemen in WWII. I have my father's military-issued Jewish siddur (prayerbook). Why would the military bother to print up a handsome siddur if only a very few Jews were serving?

Jewish servicemembers accounted for 4.23 percent of all soldiers in the U.S. Armed Forces.

About 60 percent of all Jewish physicians in the United States under 45 years of age served in the military.

22 Jews attained senior rank in the armed forces - 18 generals, 6 major generals, 12 brigadier generals,1 vice admiral, 2 rear admirals and 1 commodore.

The total number of Jewish war casualties was 38,338 - 11,000 were killed, 7,000 of which occured in combat.

Approximately 26,000 Jewish men and women in uniform received citations for valor and merit. If Kerry has any friends, they ought to remind him quickly of the kabbalistic curse that was placed on Ariel Sharon for his dastardly uprooting of the Jews of Gaza. So where do people get the idea that "it is true that most American Jews sat home during the Holocaust

I shake my head, but I know why.

My Father brought back a few things from the war. He somehow ended up with Hitler's chef's photo album. He spent some time at the Eagles Nest.

My Mother is a member of the Jewish War Veteran's Lady Auxilary and worked tirelessly to help with the opening of the The National Museum of Jewish Military History. My Father's album is there. I still have his Star of David and prayerbook.

Every Jewish family I know had at least one son who proudly served in the U.S., or Canadian, or British or Australian military in the fights against Hitler and Japan.

One of my Jewish relatives was an Army Air Forces pilot who was a hero of the top secret mission of transporting Allied paratroopers all the way from England to North Africa and then to Sicily for the invasion of Europe. This purple heart hero was killed in action when his and many other planes, having dropped off the paratroopers safety, were shot down by friendly fire, as General Patton looked on in horror.

Another close Jewish relative of mine was trained to be one of the army crypographers tasked with breaking the Japanese secret code.

At this point, thanks to the reading and study I've been doing and all that comes from it, I now feel little more than pity for John Kerry and I must forgive him for his many trespasses.
