Wilders’ views on Europe get little support in the Netherlands. However, personally he is riding high in opinion polls, with some showing him with more support than the two parties in the current centrist ruling coalition combined. …

When you go and examine Dutch history....they are always at the point of new trends. Most of American changes adapted over to in the past three hundred years....started in Amsterdam. The idea of Wall Street, or university-like education....all start in Dutch territory.

Wilders might make the singular case...but expect others to follow.

Is this how most Americans, on both sides, see the world?:

Netherlands leaving European Union = their natural right
Catalonia leaving Spain = their natural right
Ukraine leaving USSR = their natural right
A state leaving US Union = NOT their natural right

What he doesn’t say is puzzling by its omission. This is, that if other nations leave the EU as well, they can form their own trading union.

One of the biggest threats used to keep nations in the union is that if they leave, they will be cut off with trade from Europe. However, if they form their own trading union, they get the best of both worlds. It will be like returning to Common Market times, but without oppressive EU controls and taxes.

The “common market” had the same institutional structures as the EU of today. Reading some of those treaties is like reading the present-day consolidated version of the Treaty of Lisbon—building an empire by stealth and by treaty, which is something that Bismarck did in part.
