Pat Robertson begs Ken Ham to shut up

Creationist Ken Ham is having his 15 minutes, following a live debate on evolution held between himself and Bill Nye “The Science Guy” on Tuesday.

And while you’d expect most folks to deem Nye the winner (which they have), Ham is receiving criticism from a source you might not expect: televangelist Pat Robertson.

On the Wednesday edition of his TV show, “The 700 Club,” Robertson indirectly implored Ham to put a sock in it, criticizing Ham’s view that the Earth is only 6,000 years old.

“Let’s face it, there was a bishop [James Ussher] … who added up the dates listed in Genesis and he came up with the world had been around for 6,000 years,” Robertson began. “There ain’t no way that’s possible … To say that it all came about in 6,000 years is just nonsense and I think it’s time we come off of that stuff and say this isn’t possible.”

“We’ve got to be realistic that the dating of Bishop Ussher just doesn’t comport with anything that’s found in science,” Robertson continued, “and you can’t just totally deny the geological formations that are out there.”

“Let’s be real,” Robertson begged, “let’s not make a joke of ourselves.”

“MUD FIRST??”

Nope. There really isn’t suck a thing as “rock” anyway. It is all made of minerals and those minerals, minus some radioactive ones, have been here a very long time.

So basically, we have two guys, Robertson and Ham, arguing over how many Angels can dance on the head of a pin? Brilliant!

"A similar but larger catastrophic event formed the grand canyon... the Flood, or more accurately, the retreat of the waters after the flood."

The Mt. St Helens sediments are purely volcanic (of course). The Grand Canyon sediments are erosionally generated. Can your mind wrap around that difference -- and in the time difference required to generate them?

““If you were not there, how do you know?””

I wasn’t with you 6 years ago but I bet you existed then, but, according to that ridiculous and childish logic, you must not have existed because I wasn’t with you 6 years ago.

Uh, Ann:

All rocks ARE either formed from magma (which doesn’t need to erupt to the surface in the form of a volcano), or made out of material “recycled” from rocks made from magma.

IGNEOUS: Volcanic and other magma rocks.

SEDIMENTARY: (Mostly)* Igneous rock sediment which has been compacted into rock again.

METAMORPHIC: Sedimentary or Igneous rock which has been subjected to such great heat and pressure as to chemically alter the constituent minerals.

* Certain non-rock sediments may be converted into sedimentary rocks, including peat, which becomes coal.

That was a sexist thing to say, why couldn’t it be the crazy aunt of Free Republic? Get with the times. Personally I think God has a sense of humor and is a little bored sometimes otherwise why would he have stuck us with left wing commies halfwits just when it appears many things that man has dreamed of for thousands of years are just around the corner?

Examples abound: New York style cheesecake with no calories and you don’t get cancer 10 years after eating it, cloning Kim Kardashin for the common man, cars that get a quadzillion mpg on one gallon of water, a Fed that has figured out how we can all be rich by just printing more money, unending free stuff that you don’t work for and no one has to pay for, spellcheck that really works, a one dollar Bic lighter that works forever. All these things are just around the corner.

Then God saddles us with a bunch of power mad half wit wannabe Nazis that plan to lead us back into the Dark Ages, that tells me God has a sense of humor and likes to stir things up a little. Prove to me that aint true.

Actually, the name of the schema you are promoting is “The Gap Theory.” It was developed in the late 1800s in order to accommodate the vast ages of time promulgated by the Darwinists.

Serious Hebrew scholars of Genesis today see no evidence at all in the text of Genesis 1:1-3 of Moses implying a gigantic time gap—which would make up 99.99+% of the time earth has existed, according to the Naturalists—compared to the 6,000 years of recorded history.

See for yourself in the text:
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.” (Gen 1:1-3)

God’s people too, from Moses to the ancient Jews, to Jesus, the disciples, and into the Church—up through the 1700s, always understood Genesis to be literally true...and the universe not vastly old....

Usher’s exact chronology is certainly not accurate (where he dated the earth to have been created in exactly 4004 BC), however—the great Flood is clearly taught in scripture as literal (as if it were a local flood, all the time and effort building an ark would be silly....), and the worldwide flood is explicitly rejected by old earth creationists & theistic evolutionists.....

Who won the debate?

...because, God wins in the end.

Agreed, God won the debate. There was a lot of press on this debate. Merely having the discussion out in the open is productive. Ken frequently stated quite clearly the salvation story. And whether God put things in motion 4.5B or 6k years ago doesn’t really matter for our salvation.

That said, I had a significant barrier to fully trusting the Bible when in college. I personally needed to reconcile the facts stated in Genesis vs the commonly accepted scientific story line (evolution & age of the universe). I have studied this with an open mind for decades. The more closely I study and listen to Ken Ham the more convinced I am that he is spot on!

The bottom line is that modern young-earthism was developed when some people felt that there was no other way to disprove evolution. If the Bible says Earth is young, it is reasoned, then evolution is wrong. However, this is entirely contingent on whether or not old age is a necessary component of evolution. If it is not, then a “young-earth” would be hard, if not impossible, to prove and biblical interpretations would be contradictory and inconsistent.

The Hebrew word day in Genesis 1 can be literally translated more than one way. So one must look at the various contextual elements of Genesis 1 before declaring what is the literal truth and what is not. Young-earthism is not based on sound science or biblical scholarship, but on preconceived beliefs fit onto science and the Bible. Based on the fallacy that old age equals evolution and that 24-hour days are the literal interpretation, creationists have claimed Earth is young

“Were you there?” is not a scientific argument. It is an intellectually lazy and trite phrase that Ham will repeat over and over, making him look like a fool. If you wish to believe his tripe, then please feel free, but do not pretend that anything he says is in any way related to science.

This passage from 1 Corinthians, is where we find ourselves today.

For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock,
and unto the Greeks foolishness;
But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks,
Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

There are two distinct and fundamentally different foundations for the understanding and interpretation of information.

The social affects of Darwinism over time have created a society that seeks wisdom from Man.

The Christian church has ceded this ground out of convenience and has slowly re-made our culture Greek.

No human being alive today was there 6000 years ago, but fortunately, others were.

The Mesopotamians, for example, who were actually around from 8000 BC.

And of course, the folks who built Göbekli Tepe in present-day Turkey, built around 9000 BC.

To suggest the Earth is only 6000 years old flies in the face of empirical and verifiable evidence.

Did you was the debate?

Mr. Nye could not answer Mr. Ham’s questions about Observational Science or even Observational Geology.

In other words, the Old Earth Evolution folks want us to believe science that they could not even observe themselves!

It would be just like a scientist conducting an experiment in a lab and not actually being there to observe the process or results!

Would you believe such a scientist?

However, we are lucky as all those questions are answered in one Book!

You really should go to the You Tube and watch Mr. Ham dismantle Mr. Nye in that debate.

Limestone is made up of trillions sea creatures that capture calcium as part of their lifecycle and who then die and are crushed into new rock. It’s constantly being created.

“ALL rocks are the same age unless they are volcanic ones or meteor based.”

“Your blatant ignorance disqualifies you from any meaningful participation in this discussion.”

I would like to point out that (almost) all of the water on earth is also the same age...

Isn’t this the same crackpot Pat Robertson that said that he had a miracle protein shake and that he could leg-press 2,000 pounds?

I think that Robertson needs to stuff a sock (or two) in his own mouth. And I do believe that he has had a few whoppers beyond those, too...

And Mr. Ham would wisely and intellectually dispatch with your assertion by saying....

Were you there in Turkey when Göbekli Tepe was built?

Another key issue, demanding a young Earth, is this foundational teaching in Romans 5:12: “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin...”

If Adam’s choice first brought sin and the resulting death into the world—even the animal world (the WHOLE world), than vast ages of evolution before (which is after all, in the “survival of the fittest” a death-driven scheme of development) are not possible.

The fact that we have the little phrase “according to their kinds” repeated after each creation in the creation account too—refutes the evolutionary key of all creatures coming from one “kind,” (the evolutionary tree) which clearly teaches humans are nothing but animals.

No, but radio-carbon dating shows when it was built.

Radio carbon dating does not lie. It is based on mathematical certainty.

End of story.
