Last week, amid a host of questions about her ideological commitment and personal integrity, Texas Democrat Wendy Davis revealed a new, unexpected issue on her campaign platform: securing Second Amendment rights. The move has been met with some outrage from Democrats who see "no justification" for open carry laws.
Davis first announced her new stance last week to the Associated Press, suggesting that her campaign would "expand where people may carry handguns." The position is not on Davis's official campaign platform, and, from a legislator with an "F" rating from the NRA, appeared to surface out of nowhere. Davis did note that she wanted to expand background checks and training requirements to prevent any accidents should the law allow for more guns in Texans' lives.
The Democrats approached by the AP seem to feel the position surfaced suddenly as well. Democrats in Texas oppose any new law expanding "open carry" of handguns. A spokesperson for the Texas Democratic Party emphasized that the official party stance explicitly rejects the idea of open carry, arguing that there is "little or no public safety justification" for such a law.
Pro-gun groups seem equally perplexed by Davis's new stance....

This woman is a phony and has no clue how to run a statewide campaign. Greg Abbott is going to crush her. I just hope the Democrats keep her as their candidate.
The dims will keep her. It is too close to the primary to change horses. What will be fun is that the media LOVES her. What do they do with candidates they love? Constant media attention and coverage. So Windy will get lots of exposure to the voters. She will get votes from the usual suspects, but most voters will see her enough to see through her BS.

You are witnessing a Texas politician drowning in her own promises. She’s going down for the third time. Stay out of the way. This is Texas, we don’t trust politicians. We are used to watching them slowly lie their way into this and out of that, especially democrats. She will promise us anything at this stage.
Her campaign has been like a third rate romance (song by the Amazing Rhythm Aces) with the voters of Texas. Remember the line “I’ll even tell you I love you if you want me to...”.

Stick a fork in her. She’s done as a Democrat. Everything was hunky-dory when she was only (demonstrably) lying about her personal biography. But now she’s violated a cannon of the liberal orthodoxy.

Remember Anne Richards, the second woman governor of Texas, was defeated by George Bush because she refused to support concealed carry. That was one of the major issues that brought about her defeat. Mess with our second amendment rights and the voters of Texas get pissed off.
Wendy knows that. The DC leftist crowd just doesn’t get it. Yes, she pissed them off but they don’t vote in Texas. A lot of people pack heat in Texas including, I suspect, some old conservative democrats.

I get the impression (from afar admittedly) that Wendy Davis’ “power base” — if you want to call it that — is in Austin. That would be the ultra-liberal part of Texas. If she’s already wounded, they might just use this as an excuse to set her aside.

She has supporters in Austin and others. They are concentrated in the five largest counties with major cities. Major contributions from outside state and a liberal media provide the rest. Initially, there have been some large contributions from within state but I expect that to dwindle as her campaign is faltering. These are my observations, not facts.
At this point Greg Abbott has more support. Unless things change overnight he will probably be elected our next governor.
The good thing about this is that it will help push Greg Abbot to go for open carry in Texas. Hard to not go for it when the Democrat Candidate for Governor saw it as a good thing.
Yes, but she’s trying to salvage her campaign. Promise the voters anything to get elected. This is really a 180 for a liberal so I doubt she is sincere.
I thought Greg Abbott already supported open carry before she announced her support.
I just do not know. He plays his cards close to the chest.
