JEFF SESSIONS: GOP MUST STOP AMNESTY BECAUSE IT HARMS U.S. WORKERS, NOT BECAUSE OBAMA 'LAWLESS'
Breitbart ^ | 6 Feb 2014 | MATTHEW BOYLE

Posted on 02/07/2014 7:11:43 AM PST by Qbert

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), anti-amnesty hawk, said in a Thursday afternoon statement that even if President Barack Obama stopped governing lawlessly, amnesty would still be bad for the country.

Sessions’ comments came in response to House Speaker John Boehner’s remarks that amnesty would need to go on hold because of a lack of trust in Obama’s law enforcement capabilities.

“The Administration's aggressive defiance of congressionally enacted law is a profound obstacle in the way of any proposed immigration changes,” Sessions said.

Moreover, the Administration's actions undermine the constitutional system that provides all residents with a hopeful future. I warned about the problem addressed today by Speaker Boehner before the Gang of Eight introduced their proposal, saying then that: "No comprehensive plan can pass Congress as long as this administration continues to defy existing federal law." President Obama must end the immigration lawlessness.

Sessions continued by noting that “trust” is only part of the problem. “The problem, however, is not limited to one of trust,” Sessions said. “Even if the President could be trusted, the Senate Democrat plan he embraces would deliver a hammer blow to working Americans. The President's plan doubles the flow of immigrant workers to compete against unemployed Americans and triples the number of mostly lesser-skilled permanent immigrants granted legal residency over the next decade.”

Boehner's talk about putting the brakes on amnesty until Obama stops being "lawless" is just another head fake...

"...This comment from a Hill staffer seems to summarize amnesty skeptics’ reaction to Boehner’s comments:

I don’t buy this for a second. This is to calm things down and get us to back off. I’ve no doubt that they’re still cooking a deal behind the scenes. He may even have some agreement w Obama where he enforces some random law and Boehner says okay green light."

Thank you, Senator Sessions! I’m glad to see SOMEONE in Congress finally putting this amnesty madness into proper perspective!

Take the profit out of it (in this case, profit is measured in votes); pass a law requiring a person to be a US citizen for 18 years before ever voting in a US election.

True, but they won’t go there.
This is just an excuse.

I’ll take it, but it’s just a lame excuse.

Why can't it be both?

This is the theme that needs to be hammered home.

People do not like the idea of amnesty under usual circumstances, let alone how they feel about it in this anemic economy with 15%+ actual unemployment.

Because in five years all of the usual clowns will be out marching for the new cause - emancipation of the ‘second class citizens’ who are cruelly being denied representation.

It is "both" in the larger sense... but the problem is, Boehner wants to limit the focus to "lawlessness" to give Obama an opportunity to go through the motions in the upcoming months to show that he's "really serious now" about enforcing immigration laws...

You'll start to see all these official reports about how deportations are suddenly "rising" (based on phony numbers). The Uniparty will trumpet some high profile case about an "undocumented immigrant" who is being deported after he raped or murdered a bunch of people- a case so obvious that people in both parties will agree that he needs to be deported- as more evidence that Obama is indeed finally acting "lawful". Then Boehner will say he's absolutely satisfied, and amnesty can proceed...

Just after seeing that $20+ BILLION in cash was sent back home to MEXICO alone, that needs to be added to the detriment illegals add to our economy. They took $20+Billion OUT of our economy that might have helped a few more LEGAL jobs!

Yeah, but it just might be smart politics in the end.
After all, how could Barry possibly say “oh, NOW I’ll start obeying the law—AFTER FIVE YEARS”?

How about for both reasons -- because an amnesty harms American workers, and because Obama's lawlessness brings into doubt whether restrictionist and enforcement provisions included in any immigration reform bill would actually be put into effect, amplifying the harm to American workers of any relaxation of quotas, guest-worker provisions or other relaxations of current immigration law which are included.

It is pretty smart, yes - because it points out bammers’ lawlessness and disregard for how it’s done in America.

And, like you said, there’s no way he can say “oh, I’ll be good on THIS one”.
