House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Russia's anti-gay laws are like stepping into “ancient history” and expressed disappointment that the Winter Olympics are being held in Sochi.
Russia’s anti-gay laws make it inappropriate to hold the games there, Pelosi said, adding the Olympics Committee has “never been concerned about human rights.”
“In light of the LGBT issues, it is like going into ancient history,” she said on NowThis News. “The whole world is moved to a different place, and that there should even be an issue speaks to the inappropriateness of Russia being the site for the Winter Olympics.”
She added: “I'm disappointed that Sochi is the site.”
The law passed last year bars propaganda of “non-traditional” sexual relations aimed at minors. The real-world effects of the law go much farther, critics say.
The majority of recent criticism of the Olympic site has stemmed from security issues, as the Homeland Security Committee has warned flights to Russia to be on the lookout for explosive material hidden in toothpaste and cosmetic tubes.
Pelosi did not address the issue in the short, 45-second clip posted on the website.
Despite her concerns, Pelosi admitted the Games end up messing with her schedule because she is drawn to watch — sometimes live; there is a nine-hour time difference between Washington, D.C., and Sochi.
“Here is my thing about the Olympics,” she said. “It really, it really destroys my schedule because I watch it all the time into the night. I am watching it when it is happening instead of waiting until the next day.”

What actually sounds like ancient history is the 30’s, 50’s and 70’s craptastic rewarmed soviet policies being urged in Versailles on the Potomac by Obama, Pelosi and their ilk. Even their propaganda posters are retreads of what was original decades ago. Putin is the one who has repudiated socialist failures of the past and turned away from them.
Has Nancy actually read Russian laws? She should cut them some slack. After all, maybe they passed them to find out what was in them.
Seems like she should be reading bills to see what's in them and trying to help the people of America by dissuading her fellow Democrats from destroying our country instead of watching the games in the small hours of the morning.
