Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes holds a slim 4-point advantage over U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in a new Herald-Leader/WKYT Bluegrass Poll, with many voters saying they disapprove of McConnell but don’t yet know Grimes nine months from Election Day.

While Grimes leads the poll 46 percent to 42 percent, which is within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points, data reveals that her relatively strong starting position is more about voters’ disapproval of McConnell than solid support for Grimes.

“This new poll confirms that Kentucky’s U.S. Senate seat is up for grabs, and that the contest here will be one of the most exciting in the country,” said Stephen Voss, a political science professor at the University of Kentucky. …

This will only convince the GOPe to fight harder against the Tea Party.

Which is great news for Democrats.

Does Kentucky have an open or closed primary? Could the 35 point lead over Bevin be due to crossover skewing the totals for McConnell, seeing him as the weaker candidate against Grimes?

Don’t know about the primary, but don’t see how it could be anything else given Bevin’s comparable lead over Grimes in a hypothetical polling match-up.

The KY repubs better get their hind ends in gear and find a winner to represent or they will loose to a demodummie. They sure missed the boat with McConnell.

Yep. That's the only reasonable thing for him to do if he GAF about the country. Same for Linda Graham and Boner for that matter.

(Don't know if Boner's being primaried but still, same difference.)

Oh yeah, Cantor, McCarthy, probably lots of others. They could just take their pensions and quit. Go home and be lawyers. That would be cool.

You have to agree that at the very least, Grimes is better looking than McConnell.

Just in case you missed it... the article states that McConnell has the support of Ky conservatives (!) - so take it with a grain of salt.
