Why are You Surprised NBC Praises Putin?

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Bob Costas and pinkeye in Sochi in communist Russia. What's the surprise? You hear about Bob Costas? Costas woke up... You've heard about these stories in Sochi. I know some people that are over there and the stories are being exaggerated about how bad the hotels and stuff are. Some of it's true, but the real story at Sochi -- and I've gotta be very careful here, folks. The real story at Sochi is going to be the American performance, the ice skating.

Some of it's already begun. The Russian figure skaters ran rings around us. Now, the early hints are not good for the American team. We'll just have to wait and see, and, it's just like first day here, first, second day. But, yeah, Costas got up, and I don't understand it. Everybody's up in arms 'cause Costas got out there and started praising Putin.

Why is everybody surprised that NBC News would laud praise over a Soviet KGB leader, when they are his prisoner for two weeks, as the televising network? Besides that, there's not that much ideological difference anyway. People are apparently upset that Costas referred to Putin as a peacemaker. Folks, that's right. What do you think liberals think of communists? They're blood brothers!

The communists were the peacemakers.

We were the problem.

We were the ones stirring the drink. We were the ones stirring things up. We were the threat. Reagan's finger was on the nuclear button. We were always the problem; Gorbachev was always the solution. So here comes Putin, and he's a tough guy, and he's being called a peacemaker around the world. That's not a stretch. I got people coming to this realization. I guess it may be a bit of a positive. It may not. For me, it's unsurprising.

Good evening.

don’t trust Putin,

Smart move.

I’m sure he’s not particularly friendly to true freedom.

You are correct.

However I respect Putin, his knowledge and ability’s.

Understood.

He might not be an enemy of America, he probably is not our friend.

He IS an enemy of the U.S. Trust me on this one. I have read his "file."

First day of Olympics coverage and I was hearing about the terrible conditions in sochi. I have no doubt that the stories could be true but I also don’t trust anyone in western media to say a single nice thing about Putin. I turn on the coverage and I hear them talking about homophobia in Russia. The olympics haven’t even started and they were starting with this garbage. The left wing gay news will do whatever it takes to insult russia and putin.

When I see the slavering worship of Putin by some Freepers here, I understand why some people in America loved Hitler in the ‘30’s.

Horrifying...

and that's the problem that Obama has created. The absolute hate and distrust of everything he stands for, touches or supports. I'm speaking of Obama. He was absolutely schooled by Putin in Syria. Think about this.. Putin was the "defender of the Christians" in Syria. Putin let it be known that he had his support on the side of CHRISTIANS while Obama was letting Americans AND Christians burn in our embassy and in villages in Syria and throughout the Mideast.

So we have a homosexual supporting, Christian hating, American Dream hating, White hating, capitalist hating, armed forces disrespecting/hating President and administration and then we have a russian thug who is the heterosexual, Christian defending, non-metrosexual hard ass Putin.

Obama HAS changed our country. Those that supported police now HATE them, supported our government-now hate almost every program, law and regulation that it promotes... to do for the "public good".

Obama has our core, those that would gladly have given their lives for this country to hate almost everything about it other than fellow conservative Christians.

He is the feces stuck on the toilet bowel of American History that won't flush easily.

I really don’t think Putin is communist. I think he’s an autocrat, for sure. I’m not disputing that. His policies are surely not democratic. He seems to be more of a czar type, rather than a communist Premier. In time we’ll see, but Putin may be the best thing FOR RUSSIA right now. He’s made alliances with the Russian orthodox church, which certainly couldn’t be a bad thing, considering the communists tried to stamp out religion. Whether it’s for political purposes or not, doesn’t matter. I for one find myself at odds (as usual) with the main stream media; I don’t care about the Russian anti-gay propaganda law. In fact, it’s probably good. Not to say i want to see it here in America...

I see Putin as a transitionary figure.

Russia wasn’t quite ready for American-style Democracy after the fall of the Soviet Union, it just simply is not a concept in their political DNA.

It will take generations for the Russian people to overcome 70+ years of centralized Bolshevik rule, and centuries of Czarist rule before that.

But the alternative to someone like Putin, is political chaos, as in Italy.

Neither Putin nor Russia are communist. They’re heavily given to cronyism and corruption, but have a capitalist economy all the same. In some ways Russia is actually more capitalistic than the US: it has no death tax, and it has a flat tax on income. On the other hand, Russia has single-payer health care; it isn’t a uniformly more capitalistic country than the US.

Russians have no history of democratic government. None at all. It’s always been an authoritarian culture.
