A catastrophic terrorist strike at the Sochi Winter Olympics would present the United States with a logistically mind-boggling and diplomatically delicate challenge: How to get more than 200 American athletes safely out of Russia.
U.S. military officials have described plans to use two warships in the Black Sea and planes already on standby in Europe to evacuate Americans if the worst fears of security experts come true.
But these are the Olympics of President Vladimir Putin, who is spending a reported $50 billion on the games, including a purportedly impenetrable ring of steel around the Olympic city, and who sees the games through a prism of national pride.

And hey, remember, this is from the same Clown, along with his Secretary of State Hitlery, who let our men perish in Benghazi.
Yeah, I’m sure glad we haven’t wasted one of our carriers on this...
I can just hear the excuses now, “Well, we didn’t have anybody in the area. We couldn’t have moved in support fast enough. Our ships weren’t available. Besides, we weren’t asked to prepare for this.”
“Well, we did have assets who asked if they could go in, but we told them to stand down. Besides, what does it matter now?”
They won’t rescue them, and they’ll call the attack a spontaneous response to the speed skater showing the bottom of his skate to the picture of moohamhead.
For the 50 billion that Putin is spending, I can only assume the money is well spent and the games will be safe.
Nah, Obama sent some ghay delegates (i.e. HIS people).
He’ll send in SEAL Team Six (what’s left of them).
Any talk of $50B being spent on the Olympics is actually almost cute in its innocence. It’s a given that more than half of that went straight into various pockets, from Putin down every step to the guy directing his six-man concrete crew. It’s not even worth mentioning in an article pondering exfiltration issues.
Yeah, the Russians actually know how to deal with terrorists without much concern for their fragile self image.
I wouldn’t want to be caught between the terrorists and Russians.
I have more faith in Pooty-Poot than I do 0bummer & Klintoon. A LOT more.
Something tells me the Russians would not welcome the US Military stampeding onto their territory. Whether to rescue Olympic athletes or not.
If the power behind the US throne schedules a terror attack, the idea would be to build support for more spending on the war and terror and an increase of espionage budgets and authorities.
Rescue the athletes ? They would view it as helpful if none or only a few are rescued, i.e., “we did all we could, we need more money and authority to do more”.
The financial elites, after all, are the instigators of wars and rebellions; it’s their stock in trade.

The important planning is already done! They soured the web and located a new offensive video.
I would not want to have to depend on the mac daddy administration doing anything until they decide who to blame, how to protect mac daddy, review tapes of the incident have endless meetings and they declare that there is no clear picture of what really happened.
The next thing we will see are the dead bodies of American athletes in flag draped caskets arriving home.
Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, despite all the hoopla, is just not a real thing. There is no mass extraction team that can swoop into what may be extremely hostile environments, hustle off the designated protected class, and depart on a tight schedule.
I’m not sure why you felt that needed to be stated, since the small transport they have couldn’t nearly handle the situation if one arose.
In the event something similar to the Israeli hostage situation were to occur, I think it would be wise to have some assets in the area? For one thing, it could discourage high level adventurism before the fact.
We’re going to have a lot of people in the area. That would make it difficult to get all our folks out. It still seems to me that having an asset like a carrier in the area would make it possible for Russian (or with permission U. S.) helicopters to evacuate people to the carrier.
The “Agents of Shield” approach with a small crew like that would not be indicated. We could have five to ten thousand citizens on the ground there.
