Rand Paul to GOP: Change your tune, or Texas goes Democratic
CBS News ^ | 2/9/14 | JAKE MILLER

Posted on 02/09/2014 3:42:18 PM PST by jimbo123

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., delivered a stark demographic warning to his party on Saturday, predicting that Texas – a sizable electoral prize that Republicans cannot afford to lose in national elections – may tilt Democratic within 10 years if the GOP doesn’t broaden its appeal.

“What I do believe is Texas is going to be a Democrat state within 10 years if we don’t change,” Paul told the Harris County Republican Party on Saturday, according to Politico. “That means we evolve, it doesn’t mean we give up on what we believe in, but it means we have to be a welcoming party.”

Paul’s pitch to Texas Republicans focused largely on the party’s appeal among Hispanic Americans, who have trended strongly Democratic in recent elections. He acknowledged that immigration reform, a top priority for many Hispanic political leaders, is a “touchy” subject for Republicans. But he counseled the GOP not to shy away from the debate, though it may expose intra-party divisions.

“We won’t all agree on it,” he said. “But I’ll tell you, what I will say and what I’ll continue to say, and it’s not an exact policy prescription … but if you want to work and you want a job and you want to be part of America, we’ll find a place for you.”

Oddly enough, it seems that there's an understanding among a lot of government and business leaders that most of these illegal immigrants don't really want to stay in the U.S.. This reflects your comment about Mexicans returning home after a few years.

Pure BS. They are staying here. Most of them are not going home. In 1970 one in 21 in this country was foreign born; today it is one in 8, the highest it has been in 90 years; and within a decade it will be one in 7, the highest in our history.

Of the 40 million immigrants in the country in 2010, 13.9 million (±99,000) responded that they came to the United States in 2000 or later. That is, 13.9 million immigrants were in the country in 2010 who had come to the United States between 2000 and 2010. Of course, some of the immigrants who arrived during the decade would have died or returned home by 2010, so the actual level of new arrivals is somewhat higher. The reason that the immigrant population did not grow by 13.9 million is that roughly five million immigrants died or went home over this time period so the net change was slightly more than 8.8 million.

“Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued”

Gotta call Bravo Sierra on the above.

Latrinos come here for the freebes - Republicans won’t give them free sh*t.

Therefore, Latrinos are Democrats because they are Gimme Pigs.

I would think those who played by the rules and came here legally would be the most staunch supporters of not granting amnesty......Why reward those who didn’t play by the rules like they did?

Maybe they should think before spouting stupidity like that anymore. Because this is the result of it. And it is COMPLETE stupidity.

The GOP cannot and will not ever win a race based contest, because they will never beat the democrats at giving away money we don't have.

the GOP need and identity based strategy that is based upon old school American values. Hard work, the American Dream, building a future for your kids, a strong defense. They need to stop catering to groups and instead peel off those willing to listen.

Make the GOP a brand of winners, and cast the democrats as the brand for losers. They can start by correcting the left every time they attempt to associate the right with the crimes of the left, like. Jim Crow laws and the Klan. Right now the GOP will call attacks like that unfair, when they need to be out reminding the American people that those events were the work of democrats.

So Rand Paul has succumbed to Republicanism. If Conservatism seems destined to lose out in the future then Republicans should surrender now. No one believes that what Reagan did is or ever was possible. When Conservatives run as free market Christian conservatives they win in the aggregate. When they run as small potatoes Big Government accommodating mushes, they lose. Why vote for the self willed weak and losing party when the Rulers are foreordained? Why be on the losing side under vindictive winners?

I’ve already seen comments about “purists” crop up here and there. No doubt they’ll increase.

But it’s like this: I don’t give a damn. Call me what you want.

I just had another Freeper use that lesser evil/purist crap on me on another thread.

It’s no wonder we cant get it together. A significant chunk of the right is perfectly proud of and FIGHTS FOR lesser evil and AGAINST the hated purity/principle.

Eventually people have to see this crap happen and decide what side they truly fall on. Then go with it. The GOP will welcome replacements for the conservatives they toss away daily I’m sure.

I think what Rand is saying is that Conservatives needs to talk to LEGAL hispanics and see what can be done on it. It will be hard to agree on a plan, but I think Rand and other tea party members in congress should talk to hispanics (Especially Cubans, Puerto Ricans and Mexicans) and see what can happen.

I think Hispanics will be in the Tea Party fold if we can get something on the issues. They already are conservative on issues, so we should do something.

>> "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers... <<<

Don't blame me, I never drank the "Rand Paul is the true conservative tea party savior" kool aid, and was for Bill Johnson in the primary until he dropped out. Shame that his campaign never caught any traction.

I wonder if Rand Paul worshiping freepers have finally figured out that Paul talks out of both sides of his mouth?

Very possibly true. Whitey seems to be the only demographic that doesn't vote in block according to how much of other people's money the politicians will give them.

I've also argued that anchor babies will be enough in some states once they become voting age.

Virtually all immigration needs to halt until the economy gets back on track.

No more being born here makes you a citizen. You must have at least one citizen parent.

No welfare or public benefits, including schools for illegals

Deport all illegals. Yeah, it will collapse Mexico but if we don't it's going to destroy the US.

Unfortunately I don't see any of this happening until we have a final fatal collapse.
