Ted Cruz, Rand Paul top huge Tea Party poll; Chris Christie, Jeb Bush dead last
Washington Examiner ^ | February 11, 2014 | Paul Bedard

Conservative Sens. Ted Cruz and Rand Paul top the biggest Tea Party presidential poll yet, while moderates New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush are dumped at the bottom, undermining their hopes of being 2016 crossover candidates.

The online poll of 62,000 grassroots activists provided exclusively to Secrets finds that conservatives and Tea Party organizers stand fully behind the heroes of their movement, including outspoken surgeon Ben Carson, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and 2008 vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

If a strong conservative candidate can run in 2016 I can almost guarantee that there will be a ground swell of support that can defeat any dem. if we are stuck with a Bush or a Christie well, good luck.

Huckabee has a lot of support from Christians. I don’t personally think he’d make a very good candidate and don’t trust him on fiscal/small government issues, but I’d vote for him in a heartbeat over anyone on the left.

It’s not enough to simply oppose gay marriage and abortion in my opinion. We need someone who understands why the federal government needs to be pushed back toward its constitutional limits.

Can we have a Tea Party primary so only one conservative goes into the full Republican primary? I don't want 6 conservatives splitting the primary vote against Jeb Bush/Chris Christie/some other Rovian puppet.

there was a tiny blurb in a story indicating conservatives are pushing their candidates in early primaries and screwing up establishment candidates.

It would make sense for conservatives to have a conservative convention in late 2015 to pick their own candidate

IIRC, the list had about 32 names.

I posted in the original thread that probably 28 of them couldn’t get 100 Electoral Votes in the general election.

Just because their names were listed doesn’t make them presidential material. Even the GOP’s ‘it is his turn’ doesn’t make a candidate presidential material — as seen in 1996, 2008 and 2012.

I disagree that Palin would have to be the candidate if Hillary runs.

But that aside, here’s the top five in the poll -

Cruz
Paul
Carson
Walker
Palin

Don't worry. A whole bunch of strong conservatives will run in the primary, split the conservative vote, and help Bush on his way to the nomination and ultimate epic fail against Hillary.

We need to keep delusional egomaniacs like Santorum from running and siphoning off votes from candidates who can win.

These polls are a total waste of time. They are meaningless. First of all, there is the little matter of the 2014 elections. Secondly, no one is yet running. All these stories do is distract people. Vote in a poll and pretend they are doing something of substance. They are not.

Let’s TP the congress this fall. Then we can discuss the 2016 elections.
