Ohhh, there was a musician by the name of Quincy Jones. All I could think of was the tv show. I couldn’t figure it out. Now it makes more sense.

Heh, heh, Kwincy, that’s much like Oprah’s parents trying to spell, Orpha.

In the big city ER in which I worked for years we were always being threatened by patients and the families of patients.

“I wouldn’t go quite that far, but female nurses are extremely rough when handling male patients’ junk.”

Yeah, definitely doesn’t justify (what could?) a vicious attack like this on a 70 year old woman. I don’t know if female nurses are unaware, or just don’t care, about how sensitive a man’s urethra is. I’ve never been catheterized, but it certainly seems like it would be pretty unpleasant. My Mom had it done a couple times last year while being treated for bladder cancer, and she said it was quite uncomfortable. I don’t know if it’s worse for men. It may also be the case that there really isn’t a gentle, painless way to insert or remove a catheter, and best is to get it over with as quickly as possible.

It is painful on insertion. it stings very badly on removal.

for many men, neither inserting or removing a catheter is a “sweet old act”, and one wrong move can turn a merely unhappy action into a horrible one, for the patient

am I excusing the patient? no; most likely the nurse was doing it as well she could, but it was not good enough for the guy, and he assigned bad motives to her and over reacted;

as much as medicine spends so much on the very specialized needs of “women’s health”, which comprise a larger body of gender-specific needs than men have, how come they have not been able to come up with really good alternatives to the penile catheter

No one cares because they have lower standards for certain people, and don’t expect them to act like civilized adult human beings.

Here, you can do it.

Some people just don't react well to medical procedures.

It burns, and there's no way around it. The choice is sort of like tearing a band-aid off - get-it-over-with quick or slow and it hurts a little less but for longer. And the nurse has no real baseline unless the nurse is very experienced or happens to be a guy who's had it done. Same thing is true of a chest tube, by the way.

No excuse whatever for beating your benefactor, though. None.

A catheter insertion on male or female is equally as painful. What is worst is insertion of a nasogastic tube. It is bad for both sexes, both procedures.

“From what I’ve heard about catheters in males, if she was rough doing it, she got what was coming to her.”

You don’t get to beat up the nurses just because a procedure is uncomfortable.

Do you know it is a felony to strike an on duty nurse in NY?

He beat her up because he is a dumb animal.

There is NO excuse for this. Sometimes medical procedures hurt.
