The first lady chose a dramatic Carolina Herrera ball gown with a voluminous skirt and lace-overlay top. The blue and black gown is the first dress with sleeves Obama has worn to a state dinner. Previously she donned one-shouldered pieces from Peter Soronen and Doo-Ri Chung, and a strapless gown by Naeem Khan for the administration’s first official state dinner in 2009 for India. The dress includes a black hand-sewn beaded embroidery applique scallop-edged top over a liberty blue silk faille corset, according to a statement from the designer. A wide black velvet belt breaks up the top from the

Maybe they’re Republicans.

You may be right about that.

So expensive. So unnecessary.

it is all relative... unnecessary for me, yes... but if i were attending a state dinner or the nominated for an Oscar, i would love a Carolina Herrera gown... now if i were up for a Grammy, i would wear something more hip... edgy... :)

i do live for more than what is necessary... do i need chubby pink and cream roses with pale pink tulips in a lovely vase? do i need neatly painted blush pink shiny toenails and silky soft feet? is it necessary to have a beautifully beaded throw at the foot of my bed? no, no and no... but they are all lovely to look at... and do i need this glass of a full-bodied cabernet? no--but it is lovely to taste...

Happy Thought by Robert Louis Stevenson: The world is so full of a number of things, I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings... :)

Didn’t she recently smell up Air Force One with a fart producing outfit. Imagine the amount of ozone depletion gas she could hide under that tent.

These gowns accessorize well with boob belts I suppose?

I love Carolina Herrera but this dress makes her look fat in my opinion. Not too flattering. It’s a pretty dress though. Herrera must be aghast at some of her wardrobe choices.

Too much skirt. If it were less bulky, it would look better. She doesn’t need more width in the bottom half of her body. She has too much as it is.

IMHO the flat panel emphasizes her “width” at exactly the wrong place. I’d call it hideous/

Yes, that’s it. Something about it just hits her at the wrong place. She is so botoxed and painted looking in the face too.

Agree, the top is tasteful but is over powered by the
skirt. If there is one thing she didn’t need it was
to be wider at the bottom. I didn’t care for the color
that much either.

Well, at least it wasn’t a hideous Jackson PollocK
print that she “saw in the window and just had to have.”

One of her nicer looking wigs.

Looking kinda “thick”.

Need to do a real photoshop job to hide her fat ass when a picture shows up in People magazine.

I feel like a deeper blue would suit her more. Or perhaps another color entirely. At least it wasn’t a nasty lime green or an obnoxious orange.
