The potentially devastating winter storm that forecasters and the governor have been warning about for days began unfolding before daybreak Wednesday as temperatures dropped to 32 degrees or below and began freezing the precipitation that returned overnight.

The number of power outages is growing by the minute. Just before 5 a.m., the number of customers in the dark was 2,000. That number climbed to 6,000 at 6 a.m. and 9,000 just 20 minutes later.
Repair crews made a little progress, whittling the number of outages down to 8,200 by 7 a.m., but by 7:30, the number had jumped again to more than 20,000.

Having lived thru many winter storms here in Michigan, I learned the best course of action was to use vacation days and just stay home......

Reporting in from Suwanee, GA - a far NE suburb of Atlanta.
Started as moderate rain in 31 degree temps that alid down a good sheet of ice on everything.
Temps continued to drop, now 28.7 on the porch thermometer.
Steady sleet storm in progress, with about 1 inch of sleet on top of the ice.
The good news right here is that it IS sleet and not rain.

Got 4 inches of snow yesterday but it started with the ground warm so driveways and roads are clear.
Overcast and cold right now. Frozen Precipitation is supposed to start around 11ish.
When it starts and where the freeze/snow line is and how much is all up in the air.
