House Passes 'Clean' Debt Limit Bill (Cornyn to vote NO, but whipping GOP YES votes?)
NPR ^ | 2/11/14 | David Welna

Tuesday saw a rarity in Congress these days: a "clean" bill.

The House passed one to raise the debt limit, a move that avoids a possible default later this month.

In the past, House Republicans have used this debate to extract concessions from President Obama and congressional Democrats.

But not this time. House Republicans demanded nothing in return. The House passed the no-strings-attached debt hike Tuesday evening — though just 28 Republicans voted with the Democratic minority to pass the extension, 221 votes to 201 votes.

-snip-

John Cornyn of Texas, the Senate's No. 2 Republican, said he would probably not vote for the clean debt measure.

Weasel Cornyn is whipping GOP votes to vote with Harry Reid so they can get 60 votes for cloture, but is going to vote NO himself! Weasel!

An interesting political slant to this is that if there was a stand off the media would have as much fuel as they need to slander republicans through the 2014 elections. In the end Obama would spend what he wants, anyway.

By putting the burden of explaining the debt on the democrats, the republicans have taken a big issue off the table for the election cycle and all that's left to talk about is Obamacare which isn't going good for dems. In fact, they are running from it and keeping Obama away from their campaigns.

It isn't what I would support, but maybe it's smart politically.

“...House Republicans demanded nothing in return.”

::::::::

Opposition party? Checks and balances? Government for and by the people?

Has anyone in Congress read the Declaration of Independence lately??

The usuals will vote with the democrats, McCain, Murkowski, Kirk, Collins.

McConnell and Cornyn are helping Reid give some cover to democrats like Landrieu and Pryor.

Cornyn is whipping GOP votes to vote with Harry Reid so they can get 60 votes for cloture, but is going to vote NO himself!

That's the two-faced Cornyn all over.

John Cornyn claims to be the 2nd most conservative member of the Senate.

Yet, as Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, he
hand-selected these "Republican" candidates:
  • Arlen Specter - Democrat
  • Charlie Crist - Democrat
  • Lincoln Chafee - Democrat
  • Lisa Murkowski - Independent

Also, when he had a chance to stop ObamaCare by supporting Ted Cruz' filibuster

he FAILED

and hid behind a meaningless vote later.

He pulled the same trick on the Senate amnesty bill.

Support Dwayne Stovall to oust John Cornyn in TX

Another surrender by the Republicans.

Sad. This is how tyrants win, by the opposition just giving up.

Right, it’s a “clean” bill if we continue spending more than we have.

Your mistake is thinking there is an ‘opposition’.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure.
It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills.
It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies.
Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally.
Leadership means that, the buck stops here.
Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren.
America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership.
Americans deserve better."

~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

It is cowardice and abandonment of their Oath of Office. That is what it is.

"It is cowardice and abandonment of their Oath of Office."

I agree with you and don't like what's going on. But, I'm holding out hope for the next election. Unfortunately "Oath of Office" means nothing anymore, except to a handful of people.
