GOP struggles to find 'yes' debt votes (Cornyn doesn't have enough GOP cloture votes for Reid)
The Hill ^ | 2/12/14 | Erik Wasson and Peter Schroeder

Posted on 02/12/2014 10:49:28 AM PST by jimbo123

Republicans in the Senate are struggling to come up with the five votes they'd need to ensure passage on Wednesday of a House bill raising the debt ceiling.

The measure is likely to win support from the upper chamber's 53 Democrats and the two Independents that caucus with Democrats.

But only one Republican, Sen. Mark Kirk (Ill.), has so far said he would back the bill.

The measure needs 60 votes because Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is filibustering the bill over the lack of spending reforms attached to it.

Kirk told The Hill the vote would be close.

“I think it’s narrow," he said.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) is expected to vote yes but told The Hill she was not prepared to announce her position on Wednesday morning.

The battle lines are not drawn between “Democrat” and “Republican”. Rather they are drawn between “Conservative” and “Liberal” or “Small Government” and “Big Government”

When viewed through either of the other lenses, head scratching loyalties and political moves become clear.

Ted may well win this battle, but there’s a war to be won.

Might consider holding fire and depriving the opposition of ammo in order to inflict maximum damage come November. This battle won’t do that.

All the liberal stuff the politicians do is poison with the public. They go around mouthing off about how compassionate they are, how it all makes sense - and then they run like little boys who peed their pants when the electorate catches up with them.

How’s that amnesty working out for them? NEVER trust politicians.

Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach. Those who are thieving liars become politicians.

The 5 year long, lopsided power struggle continues on the now shredded Congressional Field of Battle in the District of Corruption, along the muddy banks of De Nile River.

The simple goal of the much-praised Left Team, also called “Democrats,” as stated by their team captain B. Hussein Soetoro-Obama is to “Fundamentally change the United States of America.”

The multiple, and very complex goals of the Right Team, as yet unstated but consistently acted out by Special Wrongway RINO Defense Squad Co- Captains John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy and Pete Roskam is to DO NOTHING that will irritate the Left Team.

The Right Team is also known by the name “Republicans,” a nostalgic name from a long-past time when there was “Liberty and Justice for all.”

The Left Team has a single Offense Squad with All Democrat Stars from many Schools of Higher Government Learning, to name just a few:
* Department of Gestapo Justice, (DOGJ);
* National Spy On U., (NSOU);
* Interrogate Ream Sue U., (IRSU)
* Reid Barrycade Senate Universal, (RBSU).

The Left Team always runs down the Congressional Field of Battle together, and has been admiringly nicknamed “ District of Corruption, United.”

The Right Team has never allowed the many Constitutional Offense Squads onto the Congressional Field of Battle, due to well-timed and strongly worded objections from many RINO luminaries such as Loser Emeritus, “Wacko Birds” McCain.

After a recent weekend, group-hug, bonding session, many caucus meetings, and private deal-making, Lead Co-Captain John Boehner picked up the ball yesterday and ran down the Congressional Field of Battle to score a goal for the Left Team.

Thanks to the RINO Defensive actions of “Wrongway” Boehner and his ‘gang of 27,’ an additional 1 to 4, (nobody is really sure), TRILLION dollars will be added to the National Poverty Debt Game Clock.

Co-Captain “Wrongway” Boehner was assisted by 27 Members of the Special Wrongway RINO Defense Squad.

Needless to say, “Wrongway” Boehner and his ‘gang of 27’ made no contact with any of the Left Team Members.

Time will tell if donations to the Special Wrongway RINO Defense Squad, (SWRDS), will increase or decrease before the Championship Game in November, 2014.

“Where in the article does it say Cornyn is whipping for the Dems?”

The title of the article is “GOP struggles to fine “yes” votes” Cornyn is the whip, in that position he is the one who gets the votes.

While it’s possible that somebody like McCain is traveling around the floor trying to convince people, we all know it’s Cornyn.

Yes, a Democrat can vote in a Republican primary in TX, but if he does: (1) He cannot vote in the companion Democrat primary or Democrat runoff, (2) He officially remains a Republican for a two-year period; cannot change registration until next primary in March 2016.

Cornyn is one of the most conservative* senators ever.

Either that, or it’s primary season in Texas and only Cornyn has the funds to put out that message.

Ayotte might be the one to work with. She campaigned as a conservative, and backstabbed conservatives before she even finished unpacking when she got to DC. But listening to her in interviews, she sounds just plain dumb. Ir seems that she’ll have to be conservative on something, so maybe it’ll be the budget.

Absolutely, and genius on Cruz’s part. Force the Rino’s out of the shadows of the senate and make them own their votes. If we want a strong conservative party to represent us we must purge congress of the Rinos who vote with the democrats. Then a conservative party can be a united force to deal with the commies.

Cruz is at this point the only potential presidential candidate that I would have any interest in voting for.
