Up to 14 inches of snow to hit New York City, surrounding areas Thursday
AP/NY daily news ^ | 2/12/14 | JOHN MINCHILLO

As much as 14 inches of snow could hit New York City and the surrounding area tonight, as the storm that has gridlocked the Southeast comes north.

AccuWeather Meteorologist Tom Kines says the snow will begin to fall around midnight and last through most of Thursday. The latest National Weather Service forecast map shows that the city will likely get between 10 and 14 inches, depending on whether precipitation changes over to rain during the day.

People in New Jersey and Long island will be much luckier, Kines said. He expects they'll receive just a few inches.

And the imbecile mayor, via his brain dead schools Chancellor, has just announced that city schools will be open Thursday, so that teachers and students can travel in what the National Weather Service has termed “treacherous” travel conditions in order to reach schools where less than 50% of the students will show up. Just proving that the NYC schools system is just a big babysitting service and place for illegals to hang out.

As much as I absolutely hate precipitation, I’d prefer it to stay snow for the whole time, because first getting that, then warming for rain, then freezing again for snow will shut down the city. Most, if not all roads would become impassable.

Yeah. Not only do I have to worry how the heck I’m going to GET to school, but also how I’m going to get BACK and find parking on my street.

No offense, New Yorkers but those of us in Michigan are glad we dodged the bullet on this one. We’re way over our quota for this winter anyways.

I guess we Southerners can make fun of the Northerners that have made fun of us and our recent experience with ice and snow-—sorry for the intelligent New York preppers who know better and are calling foul on their “leaders”;

but, not a drop of sympathy for the libs in the city that will depend on the gubmint for any help.

I will have to depend on my own snow shovel that I keep in my car to shovel it out to drive to school in the morning, to babysit the few students who will show up. No serious educational processes will take place tomorrow. They’re keeping school open so that parents won’t have to find babysitters. Oh, and to give out the free breakfasts and lunches to students whose parents can’t even get it together to pack food for their own children.

During the last fairly bad storm, he kept the schools open too. I guess Marxists just do whatever they want, no matter the consequences.

Aha! Just heard on the radio that a major reason I have to endanger my very life to get to school tomorrow has NOTHING to do with education!! The brain dead Chancellor wants to keep the schools open because---are you ready for this?---"the food the students receive in school might be the only hot food they get today."

A full-blown Communist mayor and his commie minions. Wants to give I.D.s and and other privileges to utterly illegal aliens. And endanger teachers and students so that the real loser parents' offspring "can have the only hot meal they're likely to have." Did I also mention that some schools have NURSERIES in the basement for the babies of students? And that an attendant is paid to stay there and care for the babies? It's true.

Build your own emergency car kit that could save your life

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/3121404/posts?page=58

Just a few days ago sfter Atlanta got shut down by a storm I suggested such a kit and was not so much surprised as disappointed by how many FReepers thought that carrying such a kit was foolish. Just goes to show that there are even some FReeppers who rather depend of FEMA or the National Guard to bring them a bottle of water, a MRE, a warm blanket and a kiss for thier boo-boo and maybe even get thier picture on the national news rather then to take any precautions themselves.

I remember one particular FReeper when I was detailing the small kit I kept, Slepping bag, old set of sweats, a couple pairs of soxs, a old moving quilt, flashlight, a few other odds and ends, plus some hard candy and a couple of rolls of vacuum packed Ritz Crackers and a jar of peanut butter, then I commented: “Is that so much is it really?”; Well this FReeper replyed back: “Ritz Crackers and Peanut Butter, really?”

Just goes to show that even among FReepers there are jusr some people who just LOVE being a victim!
