Holder: State Laws That Bar Felons From Voting Are ‘Too Unjust to Tolerate’

(CNSNews.com) – Three days after announcing that the U.S. Justice Department will recognize same-sex marriages in all legal matters, even in states that forbid it, Attorney General Eric Holder took a swipe at states that don’t allow felons to vote.

“In many states, felony disenfranchisement laws are still on the books. And the current scope of these policies is not only too significant to ignore -- it is also too unjust to tolerate,” Holder told a criminal justice forum at Georgetown University Law Center.

Holder urged lawmakers “to stand together in overturning an unfortunate and outdated status quo.” And he called on the American people “to join us in bringing about the end of misguided policies that unjustly restrict what's been called the ‘most basic right’ of American citizenship.”

“These laws deserve to be not only reconsidered, but repealed,” he said.

Holder said state laws that bar felons from voting are “not only unnecessary and unjust, they are also counterproductive” because they perpetuate the “stigma and isolation imposed on formerly incarcerated individuals,” increasing the likelihood that they will commit future crimes.

Such “outdated” laws have a “disparate impact on minority communities,” he said, suggesting that this is, at heart, a civil rights issue.

Of the 5.8 million Americans who cannot vote because of current or previous felony convictions, 2.2 million are black, Holder noted.

“And although well over a century has passed since post-Reconstruction states used these measures to strip African Americans of their most fundamental rights, the impact of felony disenfranchisement on modern communities of color remains both disproportionate and unacceptable.”

SUMMARY: Since black people commit most of the felonies and are unable to vote then the laws are racist.

Sarcasm ahead: "Gee, I wonder why Holder wants so many criminals to vote?"

I wonder if he feels that way about the quarter of a million gun owners that CT just made into felons with its new scary gun registration law.

It's so obvious why he's pushing this.
5.8 million new voters, 99% likely democrats.

This turkey has “tolerance” for only laws and people he agrees with.

What a complete travesty it is that he’s the top law enforcement officer in the country.

I’m actually okay with that, just as long as the convicted felon can reverse whatever damage he’s done the lead to his felony convicton — brought whoever he’s killed back to life, unraped whoever he’s raped, etc. Otherwise TS. He’s lucky he didn’t end up hanging from a tree.

This is why the IRS and Elijiah Cummings are harrassing the people at “True the Vote”

They’ve managed to purge a lot of felons from the states voter rolls that the Democrats relied on for multiple ballots each election

simple solution:

if your state is one of the ‘intolerant’ states, when a ‘disenfranchised felon’ is released, make sure to release them into illinois

Does Holder think that he should be allowed to vote, even though he is widely known to have committed multiple felonies?

I thought he was too busy helping to rig elections to have much time to vote himself.

Actually, Holder makes sense from a moral equivalency point of view, in that, if felons can run the country, occupy office in DOJ, State Department, and White House, why shouldn’t they also be able to vote?

Notice that, as usual, it’s not because he gives a crud about felons, per se, but because, according to his own words, it affects “minorities” the most. And minorities, with him, of course means blacks.

If the majority of felons were conservative Republicans, Eric the Holder wouldn’t be whining so much about this. He wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole. He’s just working the voter registration rolls for his commie ‘RAT comrades. That’s all this is.

ie, if almost all felons were white, Holder wouldn’t be out there asking for this. he’d be saying how great it was all these criminal whites couldn’t vote.
