Russia's Putin Endorses al-Sisi as Egypt's Next President

Though he has yet to publicly announce his intention to run for Egypt's Presidency, Field Marshal al-Sisi received a strong endorsement from Russia's leader on a visit to Moscow.

President Vladimir Putin of Russia gazed levelly into the eyes of his guest, Field Marshal Abdullah Fatah al-Sisi, and spoke strongman-to-strongman. “I know that you, Mr. Defense Minister, have decided to run for President of Egypt,” Putin said.

That seems to be what Sisi is telling people—though even open secrets can be denied. Last week the Egyptian military specifically denied a report in Kuwait newspaper quoting Sisi as saying he was, indeed, running. It’s been two weeks since the Egyptian Armed Forces announced a “mandate” for their boss to stand for president, his posters are everywhere in Cairo, but apparently he’s waiting for just the right moment. If it did not come in Moscow, at least he would bring home an endorsement. “This is a very responsible decision, to take upon yourself responsibility for the fate of the Egyptian people,” Putin said. ”I wish you luck on my own behalf and that of the Russian people.”

As opposed to the obamists, who continue to support the Muslim Brotherhood.

“As head of the armed forces, he played the leading role in ousting Islamist President Mohamed Morsi,”

So he is definitely NOT part of or for the Muslim Brotherhood.

That’s enough for me.

Putin is 5'5"
In a photo, Abdel El-Sisi is some inches shorter than Chuck Hagel, who is 5'10 1/2 inches tall.

My guess: Putin and El-Sisi WILL be looking at each other eye to eye. A couple of SHORTIES.

The interim government backed by the generals has also avoided the IMF, relying instead on some $12 billion from well-oiled patrons in the Gulf, including Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia seems to have very complicated international dealings.
I would have thought Saudi Arabia would be on the Muslim Brotherhood's side, and not appearing to side with the Infidel collaborating Egyptian Army.-Tom

Deposed President Morsi got on the wrong side of the Saudis by his dealings with the Iranians. His upcoming trial should provide some real fireworks in that regard.

In order to run for President, al-Sisi must first resign his position in the military. He needs to make sure whoever succeeds him is firmly in the al-Sisi camp. Given the turbulence in Egypt these past several years that may be more difficult than it seems.

From the Sunni point of view, collaborating with us Infidels is bad enough, but collaborating with heretics (Shiite Iranian Muslims) is worse.
How could Morsi be so stupid?- Tom

My guess is he mistakenly thought Obama had his back, a mistake General al-Sisi seems determined not to make.

When a useful idiot like al-Sisi comes along us American Infidels should be there to help him out.
Because Obama sides with the Muslim Brotherhood, it looks like the Russian Infidels are going to beat us out in Egypt.

In any event, al Sisi or the Egyptian military should be good for the Coptic Christians. The Coptics would be persecuted under a fundamental Sunni Govt. The Egyptian military is considered to be apostates by the fundamental sunnis. They would tolerate Infidels in their midst.- tom
