Being gay IS in your genes, say scientists in controversial new DNA study

Being gay could be in the DNA.

Scientists have found two stretches of DNA linked to homosexuality in men.

The confirmation of the existence of a ‘gay gene’ or genes will strengthen arguments that homosexuality is a matter of biology, rather than choice.

However, it also raises the prospect of a genetic test that could be used by insurance companies to discriminate against clients or by pregnant women to abort gay babies.

In the study, Chicago University researchers analysed the DNA of more than 400 pairs of gay brothers, recruited at Gay Pride festivals at marches over several years.

This revealed flagged up two pieces of DNA that seem to be linked to homosexuality.

It is not known which of the many genes they contain are key or how they affect the development of sexual orientation.

However, the result, revealed at the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s prestigious annual conference, backs up a contentious 1993 study.

That research, the first to find evidence of a ‘gay gene’, created a storm of controversy, which was further fuelled when other scientists failed to find a genetic link.

Dr Michael Bailey from Northwestern University in Illinois, who contributed to the latest study, said it is the biggest of its kind.

He added: ‘Sexual orientation has nothing to do with choice. Our findings suggest there may be genes at play – we found evidence for two sets that affect whether a man is gay or straight.

‘Although this could one day lead to a pre-natal test for male sexual orientation, it would not be very accurate, as there are other factors that can influence the outcome.’

Despite this, he would not would not object to a prenatal test being developed.

****‘Although this could one day lead to a pre-natal test for male sexual orientation, ****

And this will really cause the lib parents to have a conflict. Abort or not. Wonder how the LGBT community will feel when they see their own “kind” being flushed down the toilet.

I can almost see the posts on lib web sites now...”I’m in favor of unlimited abortion, but in this case....”

I can see GLAAD and NAMBLA and their ilk succesfully lobbying for legislation banning abortion on the basis of that--and only that ONE--genetic test.

Another fake homo-commissioned “study,” no doubt.

How many of these have been debunked so far? Quite a few.

they used a study group of two gay brothers at a gay free for all......are there other brothers who are not gay?....does this mean ALL gay men will have gay brothers?....

Replace the word "gay" with "red-haired" - do you understand, now?

Mere brothers (as opposed to identical twins) are not genetically identical.

Regards,

If true, 100% of identical twins would share the same sexual predilection.

But they don’t.

I understand. Instead of a disease, we are speaking of what would be a code that basically says “Don’t Make More.”

Science has completely gone off the rails in this brave new political milieu. If it’s not correct, the data will be MADE correct.

Also, few people are 100% gay. They may be internally more attracted to men than women but only date women because it is more socially acceptable.

Some very gay men even marry women and have children to avoid social stigma. They imagine they are with a man when having sex. It’s called “staying in the closet”.

I have questions. 1) Does the same gene configuration apply/hold for lesbians? 2) Does the study and authors show/determine that such a gene configuration is a ‘natural’ phenomena? I think about a child that has some deformity; and I think such a deformity might not be a general/genetic trait of the human population yet certainly the child is one of the population of humans.

Some genetic conditions are recessive in that you need two copies of the gene for it to be expressed. You also have spontaneous mutations which occur at conception, where both parents lacked the gene. You can also have a condition called a mosaic disorder where the defect occurs sometime during development and only some of your genes are effected.

In other word, if homosexuality were genetic, it would be rather rare.

‘Although this could one day lead to a pre-natal test for male sexual orientation, it would not be very accurate, as there are other factors that can influence the outcome.’

Then it's not what they claim.

Behavior is learned. Sexual urge is natural——but the object of sexual desire is always learned/directed by culture. Like Spartans—homosexuality was normal for all men since they lived with boys and men from age 7-30. They didn’t live in a natural family—they were segregated which warps formation and understanding of the sexes.

Boys are especially easy to corrupt because of the bonding first with the mother, like girls do—but it is necessary for boys to form a loving bond with the father and then to re-identify as male with a male, which becomes very difficult if no loving male role model or abusive dad. Boys are much more vulnerable in childhood than girls.

Abuse/neglect of children/infants over 6 months-—embeds emotions/needs—warps their natural sexual identity formation. Moberly (Psychogenesis).

There are too many twin studies that prove it is “learned” or choice.

But then, facts never mean anything to those who defy God and Reason.

If it were transmitted this way most likely, although it could be something like red hair, aka gingervitis.

Last week I angered a liberal by telling him that homosexuals have a zero% high school graduation rate. He informed me that the average homosexual is much smarter than the average conservative and that my comment was way off. I then said that I thought understanding basic biology and the difference between the reproductive and digestive systems were pre requisites to graduating.

So, being a sexual pervert is OK because it’s genetic?

Works for females, not for males. What are you going to do, stand over the bed with a sword and tell him that if he doesn't get it up and ---- the girl you are going to chop him up? Even the most heterosexual of males might find it difficult to perform under those conditions.

Not true.

Males "have sex" with toys and blow up dolls, without being attracted to those things, for example; pretend with their minds, etc.

Genes are just one part of the story. Then there’s epigenetics. Gene expression based on external triggers, and so on.
* * *

Yes, epigenetics are an evolving field. I have an interest in the expression or non-expression of certain genes, since I have an anxiety disorder, and current thinking is that anxiety disorders are probably genetic but must be triggered by events. I also happen to have a pair of twins (fraternal) and belong to a twin moms club, so I get to see several different sets of identical twins socially on a regular basis. The identicals are NOT identical. One will be taller. One is more outgoing. (Their personalities can be markedly different.) Even their eye color can be more different than you would think, and yet they have been tested and confirmed as identical twins.

I also knew a number of gay young men when I was in college. Some were real flamers that had never been with a woman or probably would even be able to do so. Others were more “bi.” Given the fact that some homosexuals are indeed able to perform with women — not enthusiastically, mind you, but they can do it — and also if the gene must be “triggered” to be expressed (like an anxiety disorder), it would be no big surprise that homosexuality would persist in the population despite the fact that a number of “expressed” homosexuals would never breed.
