Thousands of San Francisco Bay Area residents may have been exposed to measles last week when an unvaccinated student at the Unversity of California, Berkeley, attended classes and rode the area's BART transit system. Dear Lord, what does being unvaccinated have to do with anything other than this student's potential ability to avoid measles - maybe. Do people think that just because some percentage of the population is vaccinated, that the measles virus doesn't exist around us?
This is sheer scare tactics based on raw ignorance as an advertisement for vaccination. It's absurd.

The measles virus has been eradicated in the US thanks to vaccination.
Rest of the world, not so much.
EVERY SINGLE outbreak of measles now starts with someone bringing it here from overseas. Frequently by an unvaccinated US resident.

Do people think that just because some percentage of the population is vaccinated, that the measles virus doesn't exist around us? The measles virus has been eradicated in the US. By riding BART, this student with his imported measles endangered everyone who is too young to be vaccinated, who is unable to mount an immune response to vaccines, or whose immune system is suppressed due to cancer or another disease.
FYI, measles can kill--both during the initial illness, or during a relapse that can occur up to a decade later--and can also cause permanent brain damage. It is not an innocuous disease like the common cold.
