My View: Block gun violence with background checks

One year after gun violence at Clackamas Town Center and in Newtown, Conn., shook communities across this nation, we have yet to settle the debate on gun safety in Salem or our nation’s capital. As we continue to mourn these tragedies, we must do more to prevent them from happening again.

We in public health are thoroughly committed to protecting the safety of our communities. The Oregon Public Health Association and the National Physicians Alliance support state and federal efforts to ensure background checks for all gun purchases. Without background checks, guns in the hands of dangerous individuals continue to threaten the safety of our communities.

Apparently there must be some confusion. The banks are now allowed to do transactions with mj dealers but aren’t the banks overseen by the feds who deem mj to still be illegal despite some states that now allow it for recreational use?

Its ironic that the author used the Clackamas Town Center as an example. The shooter Jacob Roberts STOLE his AR15. I am sure a background check would have stopped him. The mall did have a posted prohibition on firearms and that worked out well.

The factor that stopped this gun violence was Nick Meli drawing his legally carried and concealed pistol and pointing at the shooter who promptly committed suicide.

Yup. Seems they “forgot” to mention that little fact. But then shouldn’t Nick have been charged since he must have seen the sign as well and had a gun on the premises?

Where’s the prosecution numbers for actual “positive” denials?

An excellent question, and I believe the NRA has those numbers. As you correctly guessed, it is near zero.

Another anti-gunner with “good intentions” that is oblivious to the world around them. These “keep guns out of the hands of children and criminal” pleadings are beyond idiotic. Why, here’s a thought. Why don’t we just make crime illegal and all crime would immediately stop.

Back ground checks are just stealth registration. Anyone who actually believes the FBI isn’t keeping every single gun and gun owner through the call in instant back ground check is really foolish. And why are doctors so interested in asking about firearms in the home now? Especially when ALL medical data is required to be kept on file with the federal government. Anyone wanna bet the NRA amendment that forbids using Obamacare for gun ownership information will be followed by the Obamatons???

I wish these left wing quacks would just shut their damn pieholes.

Like the Mexican and black gang bangers are going to register jack squat.

A white coat does not necessarily equate with intelligence and deductive reasoning skills.

Proof positive that not all MD’s finish at the top of their class. Some don’t finish in the middle either. Some finish near the bottom.

Q: What do you call the guy who finishes at the bottom of his medical school class?
A: “Doctor!”

Q: What do you call the guy who finishes at the bottom of his law school class?
A: “Your Honor!” (Or: “Congressman!”)

How do you propose to block knife violence?

A background check to become president?

Now there's an idea!

We in public health are thoroughly committed to protecting the safety of our communities.

That's not your business which is why your approach to it is laughable. Stick to treating illness and setting bones and you'll be doing what you've trained for.

Maybe the only solution at this point is to protest and demand background checks of all editorial writers. No editorials without a 15 day waiting period.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = =

No sense wasting the time and money to do that.

Just ‘ban’ them from the industry for punctuation and spelling errors.

Then ‘suspend’ the writer for the same offense.

We should wipe the lot of them out in a short period of time OR at least they may start paying attention again.

65 to 75 are allowed to remain as voluntary, with full privileges other than voting to go to war outside the borders, that is restricted to men between 21 & 65, the ones who would go.

Men younger than 21 would not go, men over 65 would not go. The reason for the 75% vote is to assure that it will never happen.

Those signs have very little legal standing. If you are a legal CCW carrier and are ID’ed as having a gun all they can do is ask you to leave. If you don't then the management can call the police and you can be cited for trespassing. I am not lawyer so don't consider this as legal advice.

If you think about it a CCW carrier who is ID’ed with a gun has failed. The operative word is concealed.
