Isn't Maureen Dowd asking folks to commit Adultery? And this even to plant the seed before marriage starts (Dooming it to failure)?

This is where the Left is going - headlong into Adultery, Fornication and much worse.

When will America wake up to such a corrupting Liberalism/Progressivism?

I guess compared to Maureen Dowd, Pelosi’s advise looks halfway reasonable.

The further the left leads people (those without a foundation who follow anything), the more alone people of faith will stand.

Having a mistress is not cheating? Really? Who knew?

“In France, having a mistress is not considered cheating”

The article states Hollande’s problem was that he replaced Concubine No. 1 with Concubine No. 2, and that if he’d instead been married with a mistress, no big deal, right?

Any French Freepers here willing to respond to this?

François Hollande is accused of having an affair with a woman 18 years younger than himself. If convicted, he faces up to 30 “High-Fives”.

Sage advise from a bitter, old, unloved harpee. It is certainly true that misery wants company.

Obama has a boyfriend, about 17 years younger, care to give him a high five?

Geez. There is *no* reason to pay any further attention to Dowd threads if the rules are going to be ignored.

The proprieties - at all times!

“As an ‘elected monarch’ ....”

Both France and the U.S.A. had revolutions to ditch the Monarchy (directly so, in the case of France; as a by product of Independence in the case of the U.S.A.). As might be expected, the trappings of Monarchy rushed in to fill the resulting vacuum. You now have an ersatz monarchy, without the historical traditions underpinning a true monarchy.

While the office of President (in both France and the USA) has become increasingly powerful, the British monarchy has evolved to become largely symbolic. The monarch in the 16 nations of the Realm is the Head of State — a living symbol of the nation. The respective Prime Ministers are “Heads of Government”, and are treated as just another politician (or as “the first among equals”). There is no “First Lady”, or “First Dude”.

Historically, monarchs (and the nobility too) married for political purposes. Love had nothing to do with marriage. Provided that the duty to produce an heir and a spare was followed, the royal (or noble) couple was free to find love outside marriage. Everyone understood this, and that’s the reason mistresses were tolerated. (This tolerance didn’t extend to female monarchs or nobles — but, they all had their “riding instructors”.)

The “elected monarchs” of the US (and France) don’t have this excuse. In theory, they were free to marry for love. Extra-marital affairs are not supposed to be part of the bargain.

They’ve been in “much worse” since the French Revolution. This is nothing new.

Just yet another reason why I wouldn’t ever want to touch that man, I don’t respect him enough to shake his hand, and I will shake hands with a total stranger.
