Apparently Diana introduced some much needed DNA to that family tree trunk.

I think Diana’s bodyguard introduced the much needed DNA.

Elizabeth's family has done this all along. Her father, King George VI, and her mother, stayed in London, all during WWII, because they believed they should share in the dangers of all Londoners. Elizabeth, the heir to the throne, worked as Mechanic in the British Army.

So there IS a history of service in their family, Diana just brought along the idea of working, personally, with 'commoners', which to me, was just a simple progression of all royalty, in the 20th century.

Oh, please! That attention addict was good at showing up at a charity event dressed to the nines and smiling for the cameras. These boys are actually pitching in and doing something.

As for the DNA, read about QE2’s parents during the Blitz.
