Popeye, the cartoon, had one very special cartoon, in which he battles Bluto on a ship, each part of the battle is perfectly synchronized with Franz Von Suppe's Poet and Peasant Overture , a magnificent symphony in the style but not in the league of the William Tell Overture, with a similarly lyrical opening to a tempestuous Sturm und Drang. Nevertheless, it's very worthy of your time as a great discovery if you aren't familiar with it.

Had it not been for Max Fleischer producer of the Popeye cartoons I certainly would never have gotten to know it.

for my part, no it isn’t. to spill blood has a cost. often this cost negates any advantage which derives from ‘winning’.

once we descend into civil war, we lose the veneer of civilized conduct that sets us above other species, or indeed, other countries. it would cease to be the united states we (or i anyway) grew up with. what would be the point of that?

One of the most beautifully depicted acts of stark raging violence ever.

Why did they have that music? I dunno.

The music was free.

There was no extensive database of music source material to search through. They could contract with musical artists to create music but using classical music did not require compensation.
