Of Course He Should Be Impeached
American Spectator ^ | 2/17/2014 | David Catron

Last week, Jeffrey Lord asked the following question in this space: “Should Obama be impeached?” I have enormous respect for Lord, and agree with virtually everything he writes, but his column reflects an unsettling trend in the way many view this issue. Most pundits and politicians discuss Obama’s serial violations of the Constitution as if mulling an interesting academic subject. They ponder such arcana as the definition of “high crimes and misdemeanors,” the number of Senate votes required to convict an impeached President, the effect of the process on the GOP’s electoral prospects in 2016, ad infinitum. Few, however, discuss impeachment as a serious possibility or even a rational course of action.

In a less complacent nation, Lord’s question would not be rhetorical. It is the duty of the House of Representatives to impeach Obama.

Obama’s semi-black skin is really non-stick Teflon.

Obama should be impeached and convicted. But, there is an old and valid saying "If you strike the king, you must kill the king. [Note to NSA: I speak metaphorically - metaphorically]" Impeaching, but not convicting, Clinton just made him immune for the rest of his tenure. In fact it invigorated him in a Churchillian way - "Nothing in life is so exhilarating as to be shot at without result." [Again, NSA, I speak metaphorically].

This mandate, according to the stipulations of the health care “reform” law, should have taken effect January 1. However, that date proved politically inconvenient for the Democrats, so Obama ordered his minions to change the deadline — twice — despite lacking any legal authority to do so.

It hasn't been changed. Businesses that have not complied with the law as it is written are in violation of the LAW.

When the opportunity arises, Obama will direct the IRS to fine all these businesses for failure to comply with the law. Especially those businesses owned by Republicans or Tea Party members.

Do not think that if your business has been granted a waiver by this tyrant, that you are in compliance with the law. You'd better pony up the policies or you could be facing bankruptcy in the near future.

I would not call Clinton’s impeachment useless OR emboldening... By the time he left office Newt Gingrich had him cowed into a balanced budget and significant welfare reform.

The sad thing is it will be decades before another black will be elected president. Not until there is no need to comment on the color of his skin. That’s the way it should have been this time but this bozo has made sure that race/color will be thought about for a long time to come.

Good one !!!

The sad truth is that there is no way that the 57 Politically Correct States Of America are going to impeach the first mulatto president.

Democrats wouldn’t impeach him if he traded the entire United States to Columbia for a bale of weed and a 5 pound flour bag full of cocaine.

And there probably aren’t more than a handfull of republicans with the backcone to vote to impeach him no matter what his crimes.

It is the duty of the House of Representatives to impeach Obama.

Is the ballot box the only way to impeach a derelict House of Representatives? They are not doing their Constitutional duty.

I think you mis-remember. Newt lost the budget standoff and in losing set the mold for GOP budget caves ever since.

Welfare reform happened in '96; impeachment was in '98.

Post impeachment, the fight was all on Gingrich's doorstep. He was played up as a laughing stock, corrupt and forced to resign.

“Most pundits and politicians discuss Obama’s serial violations of the Constitution ...”

No, most pundits and politicians IGNORE Obama’s serial violations of the Constitution.

Executive Order 20147583-2: Under Executive Order, it is hereby deemed that no sitting President duly elected by the people, should be encumbered with the fear of impeachment while in office. This Executive Order hereby postpones the initiation of any impeachment proceedings against a sitting President until after he has fully completed his term of office.

Chris Matthews: "Well, that certainly seems fair. I mean how do you expect the President to do his job if he's always looking over his shoulder and worried about impeachment."

Joe Scarborough:"But doesn't the Constitution...."

Mika: "You want to know about the Constitution? I'll tell you about the Constitution. I don't think the founders of the Constitution intended the President to be burdened with a frivolous impeachment hearing just because the majority party in the House of Representatives happens to be a bunch of close minded, conservative bigots who have obstructed every single progressive move the President has tried to make."

Joe: "But that's exactly....."

Chris: "Exactly my point. When you've got someone with the intellectual firepower of Barack Obama in the presidency, you can let a bunch of evangelical radicals hold him accountable. I mean, what is this, the Inquisition?"

Unfortunately, you get the picture.

If the Democrats could in lock step support Bill Clinton for his public perjury before the American people following a tawdry sexual affair with a 19 year old intern, they will support Obama despite his violating the Constitution. His being black only adds to his teflon. Sadly Obama knows he can get by with doing what he wants and will increasingly rule by decree. I fear he could easily declare himself dictator and end free elections with little more than a shrug in Washington.

No, they'd probably say, "Gosh, I wish we could do something about it, but I don't think we have the standing to pursue the issue."

No congressman is going to suggest impeachment unless his constituents are demanding it.

Start writing, folks.

If he tries that, I give him a shelf life of about three or four weeks.

If they aren’t going to impeach then at least start challenging some of Obama’s actions in the courts. Or are they too inept to do even that?

Exactly. All Obama’s doing is selectively enforcing at whim. The text of the law is still the same. He’ll selectively enforce other part when he wants.
