The Religious Freedom Anti-Discrimination Act (HB 2422) passed the Oklahoma House of Representatives by a vote of 88-0 today. If you are from Oklahoma, and possibly even if you are not, you may ask what does HB 2422 do, exactly. It's simple, really. This legislation would require schools to treat expressions of faith by students the same as they treat any other expressions by students. Here is a better description of what the bill would do, along with comments from its author, State Representative John Bennett.
The Okie Blaze - The bill would require school districts to adopt a Model Religious Viewpoints Antidiscrimination Policy. The model policy language is the exact language approved by the Supreme Court decision in Good News Club v. Milford Central School, 533 U.S. 98 (2001).
This is about a students right to express themselves, said Bennett, Sallisaw-02 (R). Schools should welcome both religious and non-religious students and doing so is not only fair but also allows more depth in education discussions. This bill will help ensure that students of faith are treated equally to students who hold and express secular views.
The bill would also require schools to provide the same access to school facilities for religious groups as it does for other student groups and allow students to organize prayer groups.
I have been in contact with John Bennett and he has informed me of something that is important to note. This bill contains the same language that he sent to the Senate last year. That bill was killed by Senator John Ford, Chairman of the Education Committee by refusing to allow his committee to hear the bill. If you care about religious freedom in Oklahoma, please consider calling his office (numbers are listed below) and let him know he should allow HB 2422 to be heard by the Education Committee. You should also consider calling Senator Brian Bingman, President Pro Tempore, and Senator Mike Schulz, Senate Floor Leader. We need to let our voices be heard in Oklahoma and tell these Senators to allow HB 2422 to be heard in the Senate.

Senator Brian Bingman 405-521-5528
Senator Mike Schulz 405-521-5612
Can this guy run for Lankford’s seat. He sounds excellent!
It's our neighboring state and, believe me, they don't go for that muzzie stuff up there. In two elections, not a single county went for obama. There's a strong Christian spirit stretching from the panhandle to the east and from the Red River to the northern border. Heck, Oklahoma hates ethanol -- so you can imagine how those good people feel about mooselimbs!
What really bothers me is the necessity to reiterate what is guaranteed in our very Constitution. This unconstitutional “school system” with a Department of education should be eliminated.
There needs to be local control of schools with parents only on the school board, and freedom to buy ANY curricula deemed great by that board, even a God-based one, since our “individual Rights come from God” in this country.
We do not need PERMISSION from the Government/city/State or whatever for our unalienable Natural Rights which are GUARANTEED by our Constitution.
We don’t NEED permission to educate our own children. It is time we took back ALL our Constitutional Rights, particularly the one to “shape” the worldview of our own children.
That the “schools” were allowed to destroy local control, take Marxist control of shaping children’s minds from the parents (unconstitutional)—and actually flip Good and Evil with Wundtian psychology to erase Christian Ethics which formed the USA, is unconscionable.
Two of my five kids are Okies, BTW.
I don’t know if that’s going to be much of an issue in Oklahoma, but one never knows.
The Gay/Lesbian Club at one of Oklahoma’s smaller universities built two floats for a parade. Wouldn’t you know it, they both went up in flames. No clues as to who did it. Hmmmm!!!
Some might consider it a little strange that a state requires an entire, new bill to defend the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment, but those are the times in which we find ourselves.
Obama’s Tea Party in Wonderland.
Up is down and right is wrong.
You are mistaken. That is not what this bill will do at all.
This was in 2011:
TMLC Enters Oklahoma Mosque Controversy
Tulsa, Oklahoma police captain Paul Fields refused to order his officers to attend an Islamic propaganda event staged by a local mosque with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. As a result, Captain Fields, a 16-year police veteran, has been stripped of his command and is now the subject of an internal investigation.
TMLC announced today it has joined Tulsa, Oklahoma attorney Scott Wood to defend Captain Fields constitutional right not to become a propaganda prop for the local mosque. As you know, TMLC is heavily involved in litigation defending the religious freedom of Christians as well as countering the infiltration of radical Muslims in America.
The Mosque event, dubbed, Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, had nothing to do with any official police function. It clearly fell outside of the police departments policy on community policing, and based on comments made by police department officials in a closed door meeting, it was not community outreach as it has been previously portrayed in the media. Rather, it included a mosque tour, meetings with local Muslims and Muslim leadership, observing a weekly prayer service, and lectures on Islamic beliefs. The event was scheduled for Friday, March 4, 2011Friday being the holy day or Sabbath for Islam. In fact, the event was originally voluntary, but when not enough officers were willing to attend, it became mandatory.
