Saint Thomas More invented the term “Utopia” for his exercise in irony

When More wrote Utopia he was actually coping Plato's Republic technique using irony. They both pointed out absurdity by being absurd, and yet people think it all was an endorsement.

While I was in college, a scene in Plato's Republic was being discussed where Socrates painted a mental picture of old naked women exercising. It was pointed out that Socrates' audience were young men and the thought of old naked women exercising would have repulsed them. That is how Plato wrote his Republic - as a twist on irony in order to teach very profound truths.

More did the very same thing with his Utopia. And the stupid Soviets erected a statue to Thomas More in Red Square for his "fidelity to the spirit of communism."

As a rule, I don’t comment on threads until I read them. I’m violating that rule, and I’m not holding you responsible, but this has to be the stupidest headline ever!
