Are you now, or have you ever been, a shill for Coca-Cola?
A conservative think tank denounced Tuesday a nutritional advocacy group for its attacks on Olympic figure skater legend Michelle Kwan for being a pusher of soft drinks while sitting on President Obamas fitness council, while the group doubled down on its position.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) had said Miss Kwans dual roles as a Coca-Cola ambassador to the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, and her membership on the Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition were unacceptable.
It cannot be reconciled, since Coca-Cola and the President's Council communicate opposing messages when it comes to sugar drinks, CSPI said while going on to note that of the nine athletes on the council, at least five are current or former endorsers of sugar drinks.
Council co-chair Drew Brees, quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, has appeared in Pepsi commercials, for instance, the group said. Olympic sprinter Allyson Felix has endorsed Gatorade, and Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers endorses Powerade.
Allowing makers of sugar drinks or junk foods to rent Michelle Kwan or other council members is unacceptable, said CSPI director of health promotion policy Jim O'Hara.
On Tuesday, though, Jeff Stier, senior fellow of the conservative National Center for Public Policy Research, said CSPIs absolutist view was absurd and said it undermines public-health efforts by suggesting that people who enjoy an occasional sugary beverage cannot be active, athletic and healthy.
Michelle Kwans Coca-Cola endorsement does not suggest consumers drink too much soda. If anything, it conveys that people who do enjoy soda, can do so in moderation while also avoiding a sedentary lifestyle, Mr. Stier said.

Nanny State PING!
Effa CPSI!
Unfortunately, my guess is she vote4d for Obama twice and would still gladly do so a 3rd time or for that matter a 4th time.
I endorse Freedomade.

I could have sworn that Coca Cola sells drinks without sugar...
I’m sure I heard of that...
Hmmm...let me try to remember...

Keep pushing, commies. Just keep pushing.
I’ll bet these guys wouldn’t object to Michael Moore serving on Obama’s Fitness Council.... ;-)
When you need 12000 calories a day just to keep from falling below 120 pounds, a couple of cokes a day isn’t going to kill you. Olympic Athletes need calories. Lots of them. Coke has those needed calories.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest, also known as the Center for Destroying Fun and Enjoyment of Food.
They’ve come out against popcorn, fettucine alfredo, and pretty much every and anything that tastes good.
They can all thrown themselves in an active volcano.
There is NOTHING about science or the public interest in ANYTHING done by this group and the charlatans who run it.
Their sole goal is to destroy the food and beverage industry as we know it -— but to line their pockets with gold while they are at it.
Cha Ching!
Next thing you know they will be telling us butter is bad and sell us margarine.
I do agree.
Further, IMHO:
There should be no “Olympic Sport” unless the participation in that sport requires the type of exertion that needs 12000 calories a day. No other “athletes” should EVER be allowed to compete in anything called Olympics.
Otherwise it isn’t a sport, it’s just a competition. Like bowling. Like darts. Like Curling. Like golf for that matter (almost like major league baseball if you really want to get into it). Not saying those type sports don’t take major skill—they do. But they don’t require world-class physical fitness.
I think Olympic sports should be GRUELING and ballsy (like downhill skiing, like sprinting, like marathons, like Ironman competitions, like cross-country skiing, etc), which can only be perfected by the finest physical freaks of nature, the gutsiest, the top .001% of all super-athletes worldwide.
Call the other competitions something else, just not Olympic sports.
That the media continues to accept these CSPI pinheads as valid sources is the bigger crime against humanity here, not whether Coke pays a former Olympic skater.
