I worry that after the Winter Olympics end this weekend, we could have Russian troops move in on the protesters and there could be a Tiananmen Square-style bloodbath with a massive casualty count.

I should give a crap why? Nations have civil wars. Let them have them and keep us out. I don’t give one tiny little bit about the Ukraine or Syria. Let them all kill each other. Yeah, I’m harsh. I just don’t want to see one more American kid/soldier or Marine die for their crap.

Is a strong possibility. putin maybe is telling obama to be flexible, as obama promised. Both Nations (Russia and the U.S) have their problems and China is waiting in the wings with almost nothing but a massive population, while the rest of the world gasps.

I believe you should be in D.C. instead of some of those we have. I’ll fully agree with you on that post!

Statist forces are killing people who disagree.

And the statist forces here are trying their best to disarm our citizenry, especially those that disagree with them.

Coincidence? I think not.

I can get the basics... prayers are stronger than bullets, Christians must not shoot at other Christians... more or less such things at the moment.

American Exceptionalism isn't in our blood, it is the concept that every human being is endowed by our Creator with inalienable rights, and that the individual sovereignty is more important than the power of the state.

We should always stand up for that.

First, we should recognize when its in play and when its not. In Syria, it is not. You've got Islamo-Fascists fighting Fascist-fascists. Outcome doesn't effect individual liberty at all.

Ukraine has a history of struggle against tyranny going back 100 years, very similar to Poland. Unlike Poland, Ukraine was unable to beat off the Bolsheviks. Their continued resistance to Stalin was met with the forced starvation of tens of millions.

After the fall of the USSR, Ukraine kicked the Russians out of the Black Sea bases and made strong overtures to NATO.
If not for American weakness on the issue, Ukraine would have become part of NATO, no fighting would have been required, and Ukraine wouldn't be in turmoil now.

Instead, we decided that if we didn't play state craft, the Russians would feel all warm and fuzzy inside and let Ukraine live in peace. For the thousandth time in world history, that approach didn't work.

Should we now send troops? No, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't care about expanding the concept of individual liberty, when we can.

Guess it is a warm wind blow out of the South over my shoulder. The prior sentence is the last line in a song I once heard. Now what does that have to do with anything? Read me, It’s allowed.

blow should be blowing, in first sentence ... many may interpret it to be what it is not though.

I agree we should keep out of it. No troops. Just verbal support or support from individual Americans as their own consciences dictate.

Enterprising US security companies could offer their services, for example.

As a Nation, we really don’t need to get involved unless this looks like it’ll spread beyond the region. Arch Duke Ferdinand 1914 style...

The complete sentence to the line in that song is ... Guess it is warm wind blowing out of the South over my shoulder ... Guess I should set a course and go.
