Israeli demand sparks ‘Jewish state’ debate

Is Israel “the Jewish state”?

The answer may seem as obvious as the Star of David on the Israeli flag. Yet the question is starting to complicate the ambitious U.S. effort to ram through a peace deal between the Palestinians and Israel.

A broad-based group of Israelis plans to lobby the Knesset to declare the country, for the first time, a Jewish state by law. And Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has demanded that the Palestinians recognize Israel’s Jewish status explicitly as part of any agreement.

“This is the Jewish land. This is the Jewish state,” he said in a speech this week to assembled U.S. Jewish leaders. “When we make an agreement, it is an agreement between the nation state of the Jewish people and a nation state of the Palestinian people.” …

As long as there is at least one yutz that wants to call himself “Palestinian”, there will never be peace in Israel.

Two reasons I have lost hope for a peace deal with the Pallies.

1. Jerusalem is capitol of Israel, 4,000 years of history, Bible, and the Pallies want to split the city like Berlin.

2. League of Nations recognized Israel as Jewish state, and the UN grandfathered this into the UN charter.
The Pallies won’t recognize the reason for Israel being as the only Jewish state in an area of the world where there are 22 Muslim states, and the Pally state would become 23 muslim states.

Its never been a 2 state solution, but a 24 state solution.

My only hope is that Jordan will step in with its 80% pally population and take the place of the Hamas and PLO(PA) and form a negotiation with Israel to arrive at an agreement
that the radical terrorist Pallies will never do.

I wish these pesky “other countries” like Israel, Afghanistan, and Ukraine, oh, and the rest of the Middle East and Europe would just get over themselves and let John Kerry and Obama run things. Like their countries, and their websites.

You actually had hope for a peace deal with a people called by a false name, who wanted and still want nothing else but to destroy the Jewish state since its formation?

On top of that, Jordanians are not “Palestinians”.

The “Pallies” really don’t want to split Jerusalem. They want the whole city.

The problem is the Arabs refuse to recognize the Jews are a nation. They insist the Jews are only a religious community.

That is exactly why peace is impossible in the Middle East.

So what? They set up “Islamic republics” all the time.

My first thought. Then let's have debates on "Christian" states, and "Islamic" states and "Rastafarian" states, etc.

The Muslims already have formal Islamic "states", aka "nations". Where's the logic? Aaahhaaa. I'm on to something.

The Iranians sure don’t want to call themselves “Palestinian” FWIW.

What a dolt. There IS no "Palestinian people". The Jewish people go back 4,000 years! "Palestinians" as a faux entity is less than 100 years since its invention. Does he not realize he is surrendering to the enemy's narrative?

The term “ram” is correct, but the Jewish nature of the state of Israel antedates that effort by 60+ years. Thanks Olog-hai.
