Not really,I have people I know who were charged and convicted of having over an ounce of pot in the 70’s and they are felons and never served a day of jail.Do they deserve their rights?

NUT DOESN'T FALL FAR FROM THE NUT TREE.....

That's right, Rand.....fight your utmost to add thousands and thousands of votes to the Democrap total....and that's how most of the ex-cons will vote. We know it....why don't YOU!

Plus, you want to add millions to the Democrap vote through your support for amnesty.

In the upcoming mid-term election we're gonna need every single vote we can get to SAVE OUR REPUBLIC.....and there you are......the best guy on the enemy's side.

Thanks for nothing, Crusader Rabbit.

" If their debt to society has been repaid in full"

Just exactly how can these crimes be "repaid" to society? How is a person unkilled, or unraped? Punishing a violent felon by incarceration further burdens society. Nowhere is anything "repaid". Except maybe the lawyers.

What is idiotic about restring right to someone who has done their punishment? This include guns.

Why should people who get charged for felony check kiting every be disallowed to buy a gun?

Why is Paul worried about this crap?

It's called the Constitution.

And it isn't crap.

Indeed. Where did all this claptrap about "repaying debt to society" come from anyway? That isn't why we punish felons. Some psychopath serving time does me no good at all except make my community marginally safer while he is in the cooler.

And if his judgment is bad enough to get himself thrown in prison why do we want him making civil decisions at the ballot box or anywhere else. The Founding Fathers understood, and said, that democratic self-rule requires a moral and educated electorate. If we can restrict bright decent seventeen year-olds from voting, why not malefactors who take delight in messing up society at large?

In some states 26 miles over the speed limit is a felony so I think the bar is a bit lower than Rape and murder.GEEZ!

In your lovely state theft of items of a value of $250 or more is a felony. That should carry a life sentence?

No,not life in *prison* (for a first offense) and not a $500K fine. But I am a *huge* supporter of "three strikes" laws. And my position on felons voting remains unchanged.

I don't know about you but I'm old enough to have had a draft card,I'm old enough to collect Social Security (the regular kind). And yet in all those years I've never even been charged with littering, let alone anything more serious. If I can do it it can't be that difficult.

Convicted felons have a very high recidivism rate, about 80% are caught so the one time " mistake" is extremely rare.

Society justly punishes those that commit antisocial acts with restrictions of their liberties. This includes restrictions of most of the first 10 Amendments, at least for a certain time.

If a person did make a 1 time mistake they have the right to petition their governor for restoration of their rights so the process already exists.

The more I see of Rand Paul the less I like him. When he came out for amnesty he lost me. Now I just shake my head.

“One can never fully repay his/her debt to society when one commits a serious criminal act.And yes,*all* felonies qualify as being serious enough to carry with them a lifelong penalty.”

Like sodomy, perhaps? The powers that be can turn anyone they want into a felon, on any given day, deserved or not. All Freepers should pay attention and be very worried. LUCK to you all.
