The electoral map as well as the divisions of the country are explained by another map:

Population of those whose mother tongue is Russian in Ukraine

A glimpse into the future open-borders and amnesty policies will bring the US.

“The rebels are descendants of the same nationalist organization that initially welcomed the Nazis...”

I think your brush may be a bit too broad.

The Russians killed far more Ukrainians in the pre and post war periods than the Nazi’s ever did. 10 million alone starved to death in the 1920’s and 30’s during force collectivization.

Both Nazi’s and Ruskies were ruthless bands of butchering bastards....the Ruskies just had centuries of Czarism and decades of Stalinism to do so. Yes, the Nazi’s used local thugs just as they did in every country they occupied. Even peaceful little Denmark and Holland had their mimicking Hitler wannabe’s. It was the French police and milice, not the Nazi’s who rounded up the French Jews.

The current Ukrainian breakdown seems nothing more than a common cause between those who want to retain an independent Ukraine looking to the West. Just as we see similar desire among the peoples in Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Georgia, and etc. The Uke rebels are predominately of purer Ukrainian descent. Wealthier, better educated, more westernized....and terrified of Russia. Wonder why?

The Ukrainian government was co-oped last fall by bribes from Mother Russia/Putin to disdain the EU and re-enter her orbit instead. Russia wants to keep her money making gas lines secure and restore full access to the Black Sea and Med. The govt. is supported by the descendents of 500 years worth of Russian colonists settled there first by the Czarist overlords, then more aggressively by Stalin during the 1930’s Kulak purges and post WWII ethnic cleansings. Remember the Crimean Tartars? Replaced wholesale with loyal Ruskies after WWII. Not a surprise the Crimea has declared today for Russia.

Just like the Poles and Hungarians in 1956 and the Czechs in 1967, the West has built up the peoples hopes and confidence and hinted at support....but in the end will abandon them to the rolling tanks of the Russian invader.

Not our fight, but we should not have been making promises we had no intention of keeping.

But that is just my opinion and what the heck do I know?

I think you will find that they are from the Cathedral of the caves or from the Cathedral of St Mikhail both in Kiev

My honest impression is that someone chosen president randomly in a lottery would do a more credible job.

Do you remember that guy before Slick Willie? Seems he stopped us well short of Baghdad and all of us who were in at that time said we would have to come back to finish the job. As for GWB, he was there when the attacks came, so he got both the limelight and the “blame.”
