Democrat Joe Manchin: ‘I Will Vote Tomorrow to Repeal’ Obamacare
National Review ^ | 02/21/2014 | Andrew Johnson

Posted on 02/21/2014 7:41:32 AM PST by SeekAndFind

A first Democratic senator has indicated he thinks it might be time to scrap Obamacare. While legislators should work to fix the law in the meantime, Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia told Beckley’s Register Herald that he would support getting rid of the law entirely.

“I will vote tomorrow to repeal [the Affordable Care Act], but I want to fix the problems in it,” Manchin told an audience.

He described the law as a product that the government has failed to “sell.” Manchin made similar comments in November when he said Obamacare was “more than a rollout problem — there is a product problem.”

In July, before the law’s troubled rollout, Manchin said that he thought it needed more than just minor tweaks. “This is not a trim job,” he said of the needed changes to the bill. “This is a pretty good haircut that has to be looked upon.”

Ummm... Joe, if you repeal it, what is there to “fix”?

You’re lying, as usual.

I didn’t know the Senate had a vote scheduled for tomorrow. It’s Saturday.

I'm not singling West Virginia out. America elected an obvious con-man, Obama, twice.

Good point ... Our situation in WV in many ways mirrors problems nationally. Part of my point was simply that Manchin hasn't been in the Senate for very long. I can understand how creatures like Bobby Byrd build a powerful reelection machine, and I'm sure Manchin has dreams of building one himself. BUT ... the WV GOP really muffed the opportunity to put a good conservative in the Senate when Byrd croaked. Sort of like how the national GOP completely muffed the opportunity to put a good conservative in the White House when Bam-Bam proved himself to be a complete buffoon.

The Senate website indicates no votes until Monday, February 24th. This story has BS somewhere....

Of course he’s lying. If he votes tomorrow to repeal, he’ll be the only one there. I can’t find a vote scheduled, they won’t be in session.

Now, about his NRA votes...

Yeah ... Chris Cox sure screwed up that endorsement.

Sponsoring gun control legislation is simply beyond the pale ... for that, Manchin deserves an "F" rating ... and NRA should have publicly repudiated its prior endorsement of him.

His vote put ObamaCare over the top, making Pelosi very happy.

Um...that was Robert Byrd. Manchin only came into the Senate later after the Grand Wizard kicked the bucket.

"Will he change from D to R? I doubt it."

Despite GOP success in WV Presidential politics, the road to victory in state and local elections in WV is usually through the Democrat party. Maybe Capito(R) can buck the trend and win Rockefeller's soon to be vacant Senate seat. Manchin unfortunately should have little trouble when his turn for re-election comes up.

“I will vote tomorrow to repeal [the Affordable Care Act]...

Reminds me of a sign I used to see at bars, "FREE BEER TOMORROW".

Exactly. This is a shady game almost all politicians play. They arrange things with the leaders of their party so that they can vote against their party because their vote won’t affect the outcome, or they make a bold statement knowing there won’t be a vote.

This makes them look independent and principled when, in fact, they are neither.

What does this idiot have to say about Obama’s EPA regulating the West Virginia coal miners out of their jobs?
