If what The Interpreters hearing is true, Yanukovych has left Kiev for the city of Kharkiv. Maybe thats because hes lost control of the capital or maybe, as the State Department claims, hes gone to Kharkiv to, ahem, shore up support. Either way, though, theres no scenario where the government simply abdicates and the opposition takes over. Russia wont relinquish the country that easily. So either things are about to get even rougher in Kiev as Putin fills the power vacuum or Yanukovych is planning a new move. What does that mean? Naval War College prof John Schindler fears the worst:
...
all of the most combat ready of the Berkut and army forces have been transferred to Kharkiv and the southeast.

Russia is prepared to fight a war over the Ukrainian territory of Crimea to protect the ethnic Russian population and its military base there, a senior government official has told the FT.
If Ukraine breaks apart, it will trigger a war, the official said. They will lose Crimea first [because] we will go in and protect [it], just as we did in Georgia. In August 2008, Russian troops invaded Georgia after the Georgian military launched a surprise attack on the separatist region of South Ossetia in an effort to establish its dominance over the republic
However, many government officials say in private that Ukraine falls inside Russias sphere of influence. We will not allow Europe and the US to take Ukraine from us. The states of the former Soviet Union, we are one family, said a foreign policy official. They think Russia is still as weak as in the early 1990s but we are not.

Gorbachev makes millions in San Francisco so no big deal.
Preppers’ PING!!
We are about to see live SHTF. I just hope the clown in the ‘white hut’ has sense to stay out of it!!
Bump
I read reports that several planes left with no passengers yesterday. Probably filled with money and metals...
Too bad we’re not empire-builders, sounds like this country is on sale, cheap.
Sounds like another foreign affairs job for McCain and his mini-me Linda.
We could always send arms to Ukrainian rebels, the way we did to the Afghan rebels during the Soviet occupation. And, as an added bonus, I doubt that we’ll see an Al Qaeda growing out of this bunch.
$40k shoulder SAMs knocking down $50M Sukhoi Su-35s could be advantageous.
The oligarchs and their cronies already bought the good stuff cheap long ago.
Truth is, if we don’t do you-know-what, Russia will start conquering and collecting satellite countries again. Remember where that got us through the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. Can you say, “Duck and cover?” Can you say, “MAD” on steroids? The potential for nuclear exchanges is already quite a bit higher now than then, BTW. Russia isn’t the only nation building nuclear forces against us.
I love the Ukraine. It’s the birthplace of the most beautiful woman in the world.
“Ukrainian president reportedly flees Kiev”
Probably headed toward Sochi disguised as a female speed skater.
Nothing going to happen til the games are over. Looks like Civil War. Russia will march in and seize all the Russian speaking parts “to Protect them” from the Mobs if things get bad. This could get worse—real fast. IF Russia moves they will launch a cyber attack first (they always do). Putin doesn’t want this—he rather take the nation though barter and peaceful conquest in his bid to reform the Russian Empire.
If Yanukovich has left Kiev he has already ceded his position. He is trying to talley his base in eastern Ukraine but in Kiev Klitchko and newly freed Yulia Timoshenko are organizing things. Yanukovich may wind up “Ceauseacued” by his own supporters.
I wonder if Barry looks at the scene in the Kiev square and has even an inkling of what may come for him?
Fear not. This has little to do with global warming and gay rights.
I don’t think we have to worry about that. He can’t even get them to answer the phone.
