LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- With lots of room for growth, the Jefferson County Republican Party is aiming to widen its appeal to people of different ethnic and economic backgrounds.

The GOP's "Party for the Party" event on Friday, Feb. 21, not only brings together five-term incumbent Mitch McConnell with Tea Party favorite Rand Paul, but as WHAS11’s Political Editor Joe Arnold reports highlights Paul's outreach to black voters.

What’s the matter? Freedom not good enough for these so-called minorities?

Rand Paul is no longer a Tea Party favorite. He’s a RINO appeaser.

No, Rand Paul is really just a Libertarian like his old man. Rand is smarter than Ron and has figured out that his Libertarian base has more in common with the socially liberal/fiscally conservative GOPe. Rand Paul intends to exploit that common bond to gain the 2016 GOP nomination.

How to appeal to minorities:

1) We do not believe you are lesser people and needing of fingers on the scale
2) We believe that every person has dignity and the greatest dignity is found in hard work that creates opportunities
3) We will use the first to establish the second. We will work tirelessly to remove roadblocks that inhibit success for all

No one since Reagan has had the nads to actually state these principles.

Don’t make excuses for Rand Paul. He’s an open borders idiot who doesn’t respect the sovereignty of the United States of America.

He thinks everyone on the planet should have the Liberty to cross our borders and live here unmolested. Libertarians are not nationalists. Nationalism encroaches on individual liberty. So they think.

“We will work tirelessly to remove roadblocks that inhibit
success for all”

Reforming public education, via vouchers, charter schools, etc. is our wedge issue there.

Heck even Boehner managed to embarrass Obama over that DC charter school.

This should be a plank of the platform and a drum that we beat tirelessly.

The communists in the teachers’ unions have ruined the lives of 3 generations of lower class Americans and they fight the bad fight every single day.

They need to be stopped.

You're barking at the wrong guy. No excuses here. I think Paul is slimy and his looney band of Kool-aid Losertarian followers are soft in the head.

Seems that you widen Republican appeal to minorities by promising them more than the Democrats. Sorry, but don’t see how that is a winning proposition.

Now if you want to appeal to “Americans” - all colors, just promise them opportunity, more freedom, and less Government intrusion into their private lives - well the Republicans keep saying that but we have been left wanting. Actually we have been waiting for a very long time!

When that happens, works, then we have an unbeatable platform. Until then, look to the Tea Party for hope.

Howzabout the GOPe widening their outreach to Conservatives then they wouldn't have to pander to minorities?

who would ever think that freedom and liberty would be so hard to sell?

Rand Paul is off my list.

If Rand Paul is a Tea Party favorite, then what the hell is he doing supporting Mitch McConnell? He is a man of mixed motives and it’s obvious he’s no Ted Cruz or Mike Lee. Sorry, but something smells about this guy.

Liberal Media statements ought to be taken with a huge grain of salt ya know... Rand Paul can NOT be a Tea Party favorite but he can be an alternate candidate to almost anyone on the Progressive side...so he is the Media’s favorite.

I'm confused...

Liberals have always said that minorities are just like White people, but with darker skin.

Now, we're being told that we should pander to these different folks, based on their skin color, because they have different values than white people.
