‘Star Trek’ Actor Promises Trouble for Arizona If Gov. Signs What He Calls ‘Turn Away the Gay’ Bill
The Blaze ^ | February 22, 2014 | Dave Urbanski

Many first became acquainted with George Takei as “Sulu” on the original “Star Trek” TV series, but for a number of years the actor has been an outspoken left-wing, and particularly gay-rights, activist.

On Friday Takei switched his phasers on stun and penned a pointed “Raising Arizona” letter in reaction to the state legislature’s passage of a bill many view as anti-gay.

Calling it the “turn away the gay” bill, Takei promised a ground-shaking degree of trouble, including boycotts, if the measure is signed by Gov. Jan Brewer, The Raw Story noted.

“Your taxi drivers can refuse to carry us. Your hotels can refuse to house us. And your restaurants can refuse to serve us,” stated Takei’s letter, which appears on his blog. “You’re willing to ostracize and marginalize LGBT people to score political points with the extreme right of the Republican Party.”

Proponents of the bill see it as a protection for businesses that don’t want to serve LGBT people on religious grounds, but Takei writes that “no one is fooled. When I was younger, people used ‘God’s Will’ as a reason to keep the races separate, too. Make no mistake, this is the new segregation, yours is a Jim Crow law, and you are about to make yourself ground zero.”

Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed similar legislation in 2013, but The New York Times reported that it’s not clear if she will support the latest bill.

If she does, Takei writes, “make no mistake. We will not come. We will not spend. And we will urge everyone we know–from large corporations to small families on vacation–to boycott. Because you don’t deserve our dollars. Not one red cent.”

Takei noted that after Arizona nixed celebrating the Martin Luther King, Jr.’s holiday in 1989, the NFL moved a scheduled Super Bowl from Arizona to Pasedena, costing the state $500 million. Super Bowl XLIX is slated for the University of Phoenix in Glendale in 2015.

I really don’t care what he does with his private parts, but when he starts making threats...he’s like a chihuahua that thinks it can take a Rottweiler. When the Rottweiler gets annoyed enough, they learn.

But the problem is that libs go into full boycott mode for ANY deviation from optimal lib behavior. The only way you can avoid it is be 100% fully the ideal liberal utopia. Once you know that, you realize there’s no point in caving to ANY of it unless you’re going to do ALL of it, as the response is all the same.

Gays weren’t happy living in a society that left them alone THEY wanted approval as well. THAT is necessarily an attack on Religion. They’ll reap what they sow.

“Sulu’s mission: to explore... strange new worlds. His favorite planet is the seventh from our sun.”

Where a lot of men have gone before.

Where does the government have the authority to compel you to provide a product or service for someone? This is just another example of transferring power from the PEOPLE to the GOVERNMENT.

Old joke from the time of the actual showing of tv episodes...slightly modified.... ‘How is Sulu like a piece of toilet paper?’ ‘He is searching Uranus for Klingons.’

Nowhere in the Bible does it condone discriminating against blacks. The New Testament especially requires the Gospel to be told to all people everywhere regardless of race. It is not a sin to be black, white, red or yellow. It is a sin to engage in fornication which includes homosexuality.

Homosexuals are trying to get under the umbrella of racial discrimination and it will not work.

What was the last boycott of AZ about? It did not work so doubt if this will either. I found an AZ company to buy from back then and still buy from them.

I can agree to a certain extent. However, if, as a business owner, I have limited time or resources, I would like to be able to choose the customer I feel will be less of a hassle to work with. In addition, if a business chooses not to deal with certain individuals, then it is on them if they fail. And, that is freedom. Making choices in how your business, your property is handled should be up to the owner, not the government.

He’s got a huge fan page on facebook where he recycles pictures and popular memes from the internet, and people think he comes up with it himself.

Hahaha. Arizona does not fight against illegal invaders.

Is anyone forbidding homosexuals from owning and operating their own floral shops, bakeries, photography studios, catering businesses, restaurants, clothing stores, mosques, churches, etc. in Arizona? If homosexual wedding ceremonies are so grand, then this is a great business opportunity for some flamboyant designers and chefs and artists! Have at it! And open homosexual hotels and resorts all over the country! Leave everyone else out.

“Figuring out what someone’s sexual preference, nationality or religion is before allowing them to be your customer just doesn’t work for me.”

It usually becomes evident what customers ‘are’ if and when they flaunt it, or otherwise make it known by their dress and/or behavior. I therefore reject your premise.

Even so, if it ‘doesn’t work for you’, then I suggest you run your business your way and I’ll run mine my way.

So you think it’s OK for the state to force people to provide services which conflict with their religion?

Well then I'll be headed to Scottsdale in three weeks to catch a cactus league game.

Looks like I'll need to plan on spending a little more while I'm there.

Sorry George.
