Poll: U.S. thinks Obama not respected abroad

For the first time, a majority of Americans think President Barack Obama is not respected among world leaders, according to a new poll that found opinion has plunged “dramatically” in the past year. Fifty-three percent now say Obama is not respected on the international stage, up from 43 percent a year ago, the Gallup poll on Monday shows. And the number who say they believe the president is respected has dropped to 41 percent from 51 percent over the same time, the poll found.

The pollster attributes the decline to the spate of difficult international issues the president has dealt with over the past year, including tensions with Russia and Israel, the situation in Syria and the tapping of phones calls of foreign leaders.

Obama’s shift in his foreign approval comes largely from both Democrats and independents. Sixty-nine percent of Democrats say he is respected by other world leaders, down from 80 percent in 2013. Similarly, only 34 percent of independents say he is respected, down from 49 percent in 2013. Remaining consistent are Republicans. Nineteen percent say the president is not respected by other leaders, down 2 points from 2013.

What percent feel the USA is not respected abroad? That is the real question.

It’s not just Obama who has lost respect abroad; we all have. This from a Czech Newspaper editorial last year sums up what most Europeans now think of us.

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.

The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.”

Only 19% of Republicans say he is not respected??? That can’t be true.

That is the understatement of the century.

He has no credibility anywhere in the world, none.

Checked the other thread on this story, and this copy is wrong. Only 19% of Republicans think Obummer is respected abroad....and they must be the stupidest Republicans in the country.

While it may be true, most of the issues the news covers today, we, the USA really have no business in. Riots in Singapore, Venezuela, Turkey, Egypt, Syria, Africa and Ukraine we really cannot do anything about it. These are people raising against their own corrupt governments.

What we should be doing is setting an example of freedom, that shinning light on a hill but sadly, American has less freedom then those other countries and we cannot set that example.

Or they think that the entire world is made up of a bunch of communist, cult of personality types who came out in crowds for Obama (and a free rock concert) in Berlin, loved Obamao in China or gave him a Nobel Prize for not being George Bush. They just haven't gotten the memo that the new president smell has worn off.

Nonsense.

"they must be the stupidest Republicans in the country."

Depends on how they mean "respect". Zero still has "his" military. I might respect a skunk because of the unpleasant things that it can do. But I wouldn't want to invite it to dinner.

That is the problem. He dithers, does monumental hand-wringing then does nothing, he delays every important decision and when held accountable, he only knew about it when we did.
