Sen. Mitch McConnells primary opponent, Matt Bevin, is out with a new television ad today and its one anyone watching the race could have seen coming, hitting the Senate minority leader for his vote to move forward a bill to pass a year-long debt ceiling extension earlier this month.
ABC News got a sneak peek of the commercial, which has $30,000 behind it and will run on statewide cable in Kentucky. The ad begins with Bevin on camera before a narrator alleges, Mitch McConnell betrayed conservatives to give Obama a blank check over a photograph of McConnell and the president together.
The 15-second ad then shows Bevin again with the narrator saying, Matt Bevin opposes raising the national debt. Period. The choice is clear. Conservative Republican Matt Bevin for U.S. Senate.
Earlier this month, McConnell was forced to vote in favor of advancing the bill when Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, required a 60-vote threshold in order for the legislation to move forward. That move forced McConnell and other Republicans, including Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas who also has a primary opponent to vote to advance the bill.
Twelve Republicans ultimately voted to advance the bill, but all Republicans voted against raising the debt limit itself in the high-drama vote.
McConnell defended his vote in an interview with ABC News Louisville affiliate WHAS-TV.
I believe I have to act in the best interests of the country, he said. And every time weve been confronted with a potential crisis, the guy youre looking at is the one whos stepped up to solve the problem.

Go Bevin go!
Disgusting McConnell attack ads against “Bailout Bevin” outnumber Bevin ads 4 to 1 in local radio and TV/Cable market based on my hearing.
The sickening thing is that McConnell will NEVER attack a Democrat the slimy way he is Bevin.
Agree. Same with Cornball attacking Steve Stockman, here in TX.
Yeah, Mitch, we watched you step up to the plate to further advance the march of socialism as you took a huge earmark. You’re a buddyof Harry Reid who is no friend to real American patriots
The enemy is the Democrats and the (corrupt) media.
“The enemy is the Democrats and the (corrupt) media. “
Sorry, the enemy is the GOPe (aka RINOs)! They are the devil you don’t know. The RATs are the devil you do! The GOPe remind me of Chiang Kai Shek, the “nationalist Chinese leader” right after WWII. “I need just a little more popular support, then I will start the reformation.” The Commies came along and handed each farmer a gun and said “ shoot any nationalists that show up.” The rest is history.
Who said Mc Connell was a Republican
Not according to the latest ads from McConnell. According to him, Bevin is NO Republican and "definitely NO KY CONSERVATIVE" (ad just ran 10 seconds ago - 4th time this hour.)
McConnell's entire ad focuses on Bevin's MIT resume and so-called TARP praising letter to investors - DESPITE the fact McConnell VOTED for TARP.
Not a single word about anything McConnell stands for or anything in his record. Just a plain asskicking attack ad - good 'ol boy Democrat machine style.
The word is out, the fruits of the Ruling Class GOP are self-evident: smearing Conservatives and TEA Party GOOD - smearing Democrats - BAD.
If the McConnell machine succeeds in keeping the seat for Mitch, I can promise that you will not see or hear the same kind of smears against Grimes that has been thrown at Bevin for almost a year now.
Dump the turd-le.
“This is going to make all the RINO-lovers here on FR crap down both legs, but, if McConnell defeats Bevin, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Dem candidate (Grimes) defeat him in the General Election in November. Yes; I’m a vindictive a-hole.”
I with you! I’ve been saying the same thing all along. We need new leadership. That’s why I’m for Bevin, to replace McConnell. And that’s why I’m for Wolf and McDaniel and Sasse and Brannon and Bright and Stockman or Stovall, because these guys won’t vote for McConnell or Cornyn to be either minority or majority Leader.
Roberts, Cornyn, Cochran, Osborne, Tillis, Graham WILL vote for McConnell and/or Cornyn.
And I won’t be shedding any tears either if McConnell wins his primary but loses the election.
But of course, McConnell probably knows he would lose a general election and he sees his mission now to prevent another conservative from getting into the senate.
