I’m not sure whether you are saying sin or slavery has been defeated. I’m sure the first hasn’t and victory against the second is not really complete. (Depending on your definition of slavery.)
Well, the US Civil War was one of the more uncivil wars of humanity. The US Revolution was far less bloody.
It was a messy deal and sacrifices were forced on all.
I am speaking in terms of standard Christian theology. That the Cross is sufficient to deal with all sin, in preparation for entry into eternity.
I’m tired of all the tyranny these democrats/socialists and Obama keep imposing on us.
I wish we Americans could form massive protests as they did in Egypt , Ukraine , Georgia etc. . by we i mean those that believe in limited government (very limited) and freedom. I know some of us in Louisiana are ready for that and more, for TOTAL war against these socialist/democrat vermin
One thing I learned about my local history was prior to the Civil War there was a large community of free blacks, most who worked in the area just north of downtown Fayetteville, NC.
It was an area of artisans producing items like furniture, wheels, barrels, etc.
After the Civil War - poof - they were gone along with their story.
OK.
Half the truth is often a great lie. - Benjamin FranklinBy that I mean that even if the movie is essentially accurate, its emotional impact diverts from a larger truth. Namely, that slavery was universal, globally and throughout history, until the institution was delegitimated in the Nineteenth Century.
And it won't do to just leave that statement in the passive voice, "was delegitimated." It is true that Christianity accepted the institution of slavery from its own founding, and even after its establishment as the religion of the Roman Empire under Constantine, and even unto the Nineteenth Century. But compared to what? No other religion ever delegitimated slavery except under the influence (if not coercion) of Christians. Predominantly English speaking Christians (Black Rednecks and White Liberals, by Thomas Sowell).
An emotional dramatization of the evils of the practice of slavery by Christians, just before (in historical terms, very suddenly) Christianity delegitimated the institution globally, is a half truth and a great lie.
Its just coincidence that from kindergarten to high school graduation is also twelve years. The irony will get stronger as Common Core takes hold. /S
And also, that it’s possible to make great and visible inroads into sin even on this side of eternity, by means of the power of the same Cross.
It’s one of those things that shouldn’t be knocked until it has been seen.
And this is one reason why powers of evil want to see all traces of religious faith (even those not involving the Cross) removed from public life.
So what was the real trigger for WW1?
It’s a relative shame that Christendom did let itself wallow in the extremes that slavery took in the New World.
The New World did things bigger and better; unfortunately that included a few evil things. The practices of slavery known in New Testament times were tied either to voluntary selling of oneself (as to raise funds to relieve a debt for self or friends or family) or to prisoners of war.
The African slave trade really pushed the prisoners of war concept. Constantly simmering inter-tribal warfare produced a bumper crop of what were essentially kidnapped slaves. Arab slave traders were not shy to exploit this. Most of those slaves didn’t go to the American colonies, but some did. And then because they happened to be black, and because few voluntary immigrants were black, color was seized upon as an identifying factor for who should be considered a slave and who should not.
At any rate, the cure is not for Christendom to become a doormat, but for it to re-affirm what it means to be the body of Jesus Christ.
More propaganda.
Our society is drenched with info about slavery. Kids need to learn some other stuff too.
Well, the time during which it is discussed will, I hope, allow the good, the bad, and the ugly to all be discussed.
How Christendom failed to live up to its ideals SHOULD be fair game. And it did — US racially tied chattel slavery went beyond the New Testament accepted parameters.
Because then it will have a reason to confess in this otherwise secular context what its ideals ARE, and WHY they are that way.
I liked the overall story, but found the movie lacking.
only military and border control for the federal gov
local govs can deal only with laws that prevent the use of force (assault, murder, kidnapping, stealing) etc. and just courts to act as referees where individuals can settle disputes of contracts , land, etc. courts with jury's of your peers not gov morons deciding what's right at any level. gov schools are an abomination, so is the EPA,IRS etc. No one can be deprived of their right to freedom, privacy , property with out the due process of law in a court of law and judged by a jury of your peers. government morons can NEVER make any law that doesn't deal with protecting property rights or preventing force. government education? no way, gov healthcare and charity ? by what right do these democrat/government goons have to deprive us of our rights and property (half our income) to do fake global warming studies? so yes patents , property rights, no stealing , no murder, no harrassment etc. those can be written in a few laws, a few pages. everything else is not the province nor business of government.instead there are room fulls of laws that impose tyranny on us
Short-sighted? Far-sighted, rather.
The history curriculum in middle and high schools has been reduced to:
a) slavery,
b) genocide of Native Americans
c) the holocaust,
d) Seneca Falls Convention and
e) Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire if there is time.
The common thread is the evil nature of oppressive white men.
Yes.... ....37 years after.....Roots for the 21st Century...... The original was not awful, but what the Jesses and Rev Als did with it was. I know nothing of this new one though.
Incorporate other movies like Midway and The Longest Day if U.S. history is the true motivation.
I saw the movie.
It portrayed Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon negatively. Johnson was especially bad...ignorant, crude, racist. Nixon was shown as someone only interested in votes. Fine...it showed democrats to be worse than republicans. And it wasn’t too kind to the Black Panthers either.
But the ending ruined the movie.
The ending showed a lot of Obama ‘O’ symbols and everyone happy...not because a qualified black leader was elected, but because a black skin color was elected.
If shown in the classroom, students will get the impression the election of POTUS is some kind of reward, rather than choosing the best person to lead the country and serve the people.
That would be a waste of my time and yours. The purpose of "teaching" using this movie is to program the students to accept the government's worldview. What decent people think of as "education" has nothing to do with it.
