Yes, I have MS -- my life with multiple sclerosis
Fox News.com ^ | February 25, 2014 | Janice Dean

I had my first Multiple Sclerosis (MS) episode in 2005 (the formal diagnosis would come later). Naturally, I remember it well: we had just come off the most active hurricane season in history. It was the year of Hurricanes Dennis, Emily, Katrina, Rita and Wilma. We had so many storms, the National Hurricane Center went to the Greek alphabet because we had run out of names.

I was working long hours that fall and was feeling overwhelmingly tired, stressed and depressed from all the devastation we were seeing on television. Little did I know that as I was warning people of the next hurricane, my body was dealing with its own neurological storm, one that had been forming for years.

I took time off and decided to go back to Canada for a week with my boyfriend Sean. The first day of my vacation I woke up to numbness in my feet and parts of my legs. I felt like I couldn’t get out of bed. I had no idea what was wrong.

My best friend is battling this. It’s an evil, EVIL disease. Glad Janice is speaking out!

MS is the worst. My sister has it and there is little you can do.
Sad!

Hated to see this. I’ve always liked Janice.

Glad to hear her flare-ups are few and far between.

You just never know do you. Life is fleeting...

She’s in good care and is on a mind-boggling array of vitamins and meds. She still works full-time and is finishing up raising her family...the last one is in High School.

I never paid much attention to Janice. I just heretofore thought of her as “wow, what a sweet, sweet person”. Thanks for posting this, now I will follow her a lot closer. Hang tough Janice!

Luckily, I knew someone at work who also had MS: Neil Cavuto. The Fox News and Fox Business senior vice president, anchor and managing editor had gone public with his illness (along with having suffered from cancer).

i love Neil Cavuto... he is really the only one at FoxNews i hold in high regard... when Obama won the Presidential election in 2008, i decided to forgo all television news--including FoxNews... but i will watch Neil Cavuto from time to time...

a quote from Mr. Cavuto:

"I don't hide that I have had a tough life in many respects. I fought back a near-life-ending cancer, only to end up with multiple sclerosis years later. Doctors have since told me that the odds of contracting both diseases in the same life are something like two million to one! Yet here I am, marching on, continuing to do my job when doctors who've examined my scans and MRIs tell me I shouldn't be walking or talking."

i hope he is with us for a very, very long time... i hate that we lost Tony Snow much too soon...

I like the way Janice forecasts the weather with lots of humor.
