There’s plenty of room in PF and they have built a lot of road in the past few years.

The name “Pigeon Forge” comes from an iron forge built by Isaac Love (1783–1854) sometime around 1820. The name of this forge referred to its location along the Little Pigeon River, in the vicinity of what is now the Old Mill. The name of the river comes from the flocks of passenger pigeons that frequented its banks at the time of the first Euro-American settlers’ arrival.[4]

I wish her all the luck in the world. She's a gem.

She's a good example of PC gone awry.

I visited that area with my sister and our mother back in 2006. It’s beautiful there.

(But the roads were scary as hell).

So they are now extinct:

[P]igeon meat was commercialized as a cheap food for slaves and the poor in the 19th century, resulting in hunting on a massive and mechanized scale. A slow decline between about 1800 and 1870 was followed by a catastrophic decline between 1870 and 1890.

Interesting — As went slavery declined so did the passenger pigeons they ate or vice versa.

True story: I was in Spruce Pine, NC, trying to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Entrance was closed, so I followed the detour sign and down we went. Down a steep, narrow, twisty road with no shoulder and no place to even think of turning around. It was so steep that all the stuff in the back of my van was sliding forward and I had a real fear that I would burn up my brakes. Then I saw the sign:

ROAD IS WORSE AHEAD
